Unreal 2 XMP Bonus Pack Beta

As promised, the Unreal 2 XMP Community Bonus Pack beta has been released, adding nine new maps and several mutators to the Legend Entertainment developed multiplayer game. We have the 103mb download mirrored on FileShack.

We received an email announcing that a public beta of the Unreal 2 XMP community bonus pack will be released this Friday. The file will be released at 3PM CST and people are invited to join #BeyondUnreal on IRC.EnterTheGame.com and #U2XMP on IRC.ProGamePlayer.com to talk to the mappers and programmers involved with this project.

Unreal 2 XMP Patch, Site

On Unreal 2 XMP Patch

According to this Beyond Unreal forum post, a patch will be released for the Unreal 2 XMP mode, despite the closing of developer Legend Entertainment. This patch will be released together with the upcoming XMP Community Bonus Pack, and will "fix several bugs and add new features".

Unreal 2 XMP Released

As expected, the Unreal 2 XMP addon has been released, adding a class-based multiplayer component to Legend's first person shooter. The 274MB download includes 8 maps, 3 vehicles, and 3 character classes. You'll need the Unreal 2 Play disc to play XMP; if you don't own Unreal 2 already, a Special Edition is due out soon which will have XMP in the box (though sites like GoGamer and EBGames * already carry the original at a pretty cheap price). A demo is available for those of you without Unreal 2 who want to try out XMP.

There is an Unreal 2 XMP Q&A on the Adrenaline Vault this morning, asking Legend designer Scott Dalton about this new multiplayer component for the game which is due out soon. In case you missed it a demo was released a few days ago.

Unreal 2 XMP Demo Out

As promised, the Unreal 2 XMP multiplayer demo has been released. The 149mb demo offers a single level from Legend's new "class-based multiplayer game where teams use vehicles, cooperation and Unreal II: The Awakening's devastating weaponry to battle it out across large-scale terrain maps". The full XMP addon will be released for free for current Unreal 2 owners later this month, and it will also be included in the Unreal 2 Special Edition release (more info on that here).

In an additional email, Atari let us know that a demo of the Unreal 2 multiplayer XMP mode will be released tomorrow. No word on what exactly you'll get to sample, but you do not need a copy of Unreal 2 to play this.

Unreal 2 SE Announced

Atari sends along this press release announcing that they'll release Unreal 2: The Awaking Special Edition some time later this month. The Special Edition features the singleplayer game, and the new XMP mode which is "a class-based multiplayer game where teams use vehicles, cooperation and Unreal II: The Awakening's devastating weaponry to battle it out across large-scale terrain maps.". Unreal 2 SE will be in stores for $29.99, and the XMP addon will still be released online for free for current Unreal 2 owners.

A thread on the Atari Unreal 2 forums offers some more info on the planned Unreal 2 multiplayer addon which Legend Entertainment will be releasing for free. The multiplayer will be class based, with three different classes and three types of vehicles, as players fight to control energy sources. Thanks Blues News.

Atari's BetaTests.net site is now accepting applications from people wanting to test the free Unreal 2 multiplayer expansion. The multiplayer mode is described as a "class-based team game where players fight for control of artifacts and energy using a deadly arsenal of weaponry, vehicles, and defenses".

Legend Entertainment's job page has been updated, mentioning that the Unreal 2 developer is looking to hire a level designer. You must be familiar with the Unreal tech and toolset, and 3D Studio MAX experience is a plus. More info here.

Unreal 2 Patch / Demo News

The Infogrames Unreal 2 forums has a post by Legend's Glen Dahlgren, who mentions that a patch for Unreal 2 is in the works. It will "address a number of the issues that people have raised in these forums". A demo is now definitely being worked on as well. Thanks Blues News. Update: here is a mini patch already which will supposedly fix EAX crash bugs.
