Haemimont is promising a return to the form for the series following the pirate-themed Tropico 2. Players will once again inhabit the role of El Presidente, building up a banana republic while "managing" the populace with political maneuvering.The banana republic management sim is headed to PC and Xbox 360 in September.

"The Tropico 3 release on the Xbox 360 is a first for Kalypso and marks the beginning of an exciting entry into the console market," said managing director Stefan Marcinek, noting Kalypso's plan to release "four titles in tandem on both the Xbox 360 and PC" in 2010.

El Presidente can issue a rousing address from the palace balcony, or step outside and wander the island paradise on foot or cruise in a limo. Hands-on rulers can inspect buildings, hurry construction along, soothe protests and even grab a gun to fight rebels.

Kalypso acquired the rights to the series from Take-Two, and is now positioning the project for a summer 2009 release.
The team notes that the game will be based on the original Tropico, and is promising "state-of-the-art graphics, complex gameplay similar to the other titles in the series and a comprehensive multiplayer mode."
"The Tropico series is a great IP which we are excited to continue," said Kalypso Media's managing director Simon Hellwig.
