Tropico 3 Release, Demo Dates Pinned Down

Haemimont Games' third-world urban sim Tropico 3 is headed to the Xbox 360 and PC worldwide on October 16, representatives announced today.

If that sounds like a long time to wait before you start up your banana farm, you're in luck: a PC demo is also set to be released on September 7.

Haemimont is promising a return to the form for the series following the pirate-themed Tropico 2. Players will once again inhabit the role of El Presidente, building up a banana republic while "managing" the populace with political maneuvering.

The Xbox 360 port of Kalypso Media's Tropico 3 looks much like the PC version. Only one screenshot really gives us a look at the UI differences, which consist of A's and B's rather than left and right clicks.

Both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of Tropico 3 hit this September.

New screenshots of Tropico 3 reveal the interface of Haemimont Games' banana republic management simulator, and slip in a few sly jabs at tourists and the clergy.


Tourists love junk, and guns turn bishops to God.

Of course, global approval and income from tourism might just come in handy with your island caught between the superpowers of the cold war--not to mention the internal strife and political conflicts that come with the territory--so best humour them.

Tropico 3 is slated for a European release on PC and Xbox 360 in September, published by Kalypso Media. A US release has yet to be announced, but we'll keep you updated.

Tropico 3 Looking for Beta Testers

Banana republic simulator Tropico 3 developer Haemimont Games is now accepting beta applications from budding Presidentes for a closed test set to begin on July 13.


Your chance to rule all this with an iron fist, velvet glove, or an iron fist in a velvet glove.

Tropico 3 is scheduled for release in Europe on PC and Xbox 360 in September. A North American publisher has yet to be announced, but we'll keep you in the loop.

Tropico 3 Coming to Xbox 360 Alongside PC

Previously announced only for the PC, Haemimont's tropical city-building simulator Tropico 3 is now heading to the Xbox 360 as well, publisher Kalypso revealed today.

The PC edition of Tropico 3.

"The Tropico 3 release on the Xbox 360 is a first for Kalypso and marks the beginning of an exciting entry into the console market," said managing director Stefan Marcinek, noting Kalypso's plan to release "four titles in tandem on both the Xbox 360 and PC" in 2010.

Both the PC and Xbox 360 editions of Tropico 3 hit Europe in September. No word on a North American publisher or release date, but we will, of course, keep you updated.

New screenshots of Haemimont Games' Tropico 3 show the banana republic's El Presidente incarnate courtesy of the the urban simulator's avatar creator.

El Presidente can issue a rousing address from the palace balcony, or step outside and wander the island paradise on foot or cruise in a limo. Hands-on rulers can inspect buildings, hurry construction along, soothe protests and even grab a gun to fight rebels.

While Tropico 2 took a detour into pirates, Tropico 3 returns to the series's roots--where players governed a banana republic and risked deposition or invasion if their politicking, construction or management skills were below par, but could oppress dissidents.

Tropico 3 Announced Following Series Acquisition

Publisher Kalypso Media announced earlier today that Bulgarian studio Haemimont Games will be developing Tropico 3, a PC sequel to the Caribbean-themed construction and management simulator.

Kalypso acquired the rights to the series from Take-Two, and is now positioning the project for a summer 2009 release.

The team notes that the game will be based on the original Tropico, and is promising "state-of-the-art graphics, complex gameplay similar to the other titles in the series and a comprehensive multiplayer mode."

"The Tropico series is a great IP which we are excited to continue," said Kalypso Media's managing director Simon Hellwig.
