Watch the New Dark Void Trailer, 'The Watchers'

Nov 20, 2009 6:02pm CST tags: Dark Void, Trailer
'The Watchers,' a new trailer for Capcom's upcoming title Dark Void, jet-packs in a healthy dose of antagonist-driven action featuring an ancient alien race called - you guessed it - The Watchers.

What they're watching, we're not entirely sure; however, we do know that they're armed with advanced technology and lethal firepower, on top of being kind of creepy looking. It's also worth mentioning that they seek to enslave the human race. Apparently, being banished to a parallel world called 'The Void' makes evil aliens cranky.

Dark Void is expected to release on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in North America on January 19th, and in Europe on January 22nd. As reported yesterday, Brad Pitt's production company 'Plan B' recently acquired the movie rights for the game.

PlayStation Store Gets adhocParty, Resident Evil 2, Peggle and LittleBigPlanet PSP Demo

Nov 20, 2009 3:40pm CST tags: PlayStation Store, adhocParty, PlayStation Network, Sony, Trailer
Yesterday's PlayStation Store update was a crowded one, bringing forth a rather varied assortment of downloads for PlayStation 3 and PSP owners, including adhocParty.

A free download, adhocParty enables the offline-only adhoc multiplayer of select PSP games to be played online through a PlayStation 3 with all the PlayStation Network trimmings, such as voice and chat text. However, the PlayStation 3 must be connected to the internet through wire, as the system's wireless connection is utilized to transmit data between PlayStation 3 and PSP.

Explaining that "Sims fans around the world build their own stories and machinima and are acting out their own vampire love stories all over the Web," Electronic Arts has produced one of its own: "LOVE TRIANGLE UNDER THE SIMS MOON."

"In the end, it's not about who Bella chooses in the book that matters, because with The Sims it's all up to the players," added EA. "Who would they pick to live in eternal teenage bliss with? Our vote is Jacob. Everyone likes a built-in fur coat of the animal kind."

ModNation Racers Hands On: Creating and Racing

Nov 20, 2009 11:00am CST tags: ModNation Racers, Screenshots, Trailer, Preview

Kart racing games often get thought of as offshoot projects from successful franchises with popular characters. Even the venerable Mario Kart owes a great deal of its success, or at least its acceptance, to a roster of drivers that includes its namesake, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi, et al.

ModNation Racers (PS3) doesn't enjoy the luxury of such starpower and built-in fans to draw people in. But it does have its stars, an endless number of them, created by everyone who plays the game and that's only the tip of the customization in the game. Developer United Front Games hopes that turning people loose with the ability to make their own content for pretty much every aspect of the game will make this such an expansive karting experience that it stands on its own.

Bayonetta 'Revelations 2' Developer Diary is Sadistic and Witchy

Nov 19, 2009 6:26pm CST tags: Bayonetta, Trailer
In this new developer diary for Bayonetta, director Hideki Kamiya shares some more details about the hair-clad anti-heroine's over-the-top special moves called 'Torture Attacks,' and how they relate to her troubled past. According to Kamiya, the Torture Attacks are representative of the specific cruelties Bayonetta was subjected to as the sole survivor of a brutal witch hunt.

"The demons she summons symbolize her evil spirit in an extreme way," Kamiya explains. The trailer's most extreme example comes in the form of a gigantic demon Bayonetta can summon to nosh her enemies like handfulls of bloody Doritos. Crunch all you want...

Bayonetta comes out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in North America on January 5th, and releases in Europe on January 8th.

Nov 19, 2009 4:00pm CST tags: No More Heroes, Screenshots, Trailer
Yesterday, we learned that Grasshopper Manufacture's eclectic Wii action game No More Heroes was coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Now, we have screenshots of the prettied-up Xbox 360 port (via Xbox Japan) and video of a real-life wrestler.

Exactly what Ikuhisa "Minowaman" Minowa is saying and why the video is on the game's official site, I don't know, but it's got to relate to the game somehow ...right?

3D Dot Game Heroes Trailer: Like Zelda, But Blockier

Nov 19, 2009 3:20pm CST tags: 3D Dot Game Heroes, Trailer
While 3D Dot Game Heroes isn't arriving for the PlayStation 3 in North America until May 11, 2010, publisher Atlus has today released a 'launch' trailer which bears more than a passing similarity to a certain iconic Nintendo series--no small coincidence.

Atlus describes From Software and Silicon Studio's $40 action adventure as "the ultimate homage to the industry's golden era," explaining "every aspect of 3D Dot Game Heroes strives to transport gamers to happy memories from their gaming childhood."

If this all brings a tear to your bitter and jaded video gaming eye, stave off those dedicated server blues with gameplay clips from the Japanese release.

Army of Two Sequel Trailer: Army of Bling

Nov 18, 2009 3:40pm CST tags: Army of Two: The 40th Day, Trailer
As indicated by this trailer, Army of Two: The 40th Day's weapon customization options present some very difficult choices. For example, what to use as a suppressor on an AK-47--a DSS Silent Strike Silencer? K03 Bayonet? Kitchen Knife? Screwdriver?

And just what about the paint job? Pimp? Giraffe? Hearts? Fleur-de-Lys? Bubbles? Stars? It's a tough call, but fortunately, EA Montreal's buddy shooter sequel isn't slated to hit PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or PSP until January 12, so you've got some time.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days Announced

Nov 18, 2009 10:00am CST tags: Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, IO Interactive, Trailer, Eidos
IO Interactive today formally announced Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, the sequel to its million-selling 2007 shooter Kane & Lynch: Dead Men whose existence and name have both been public knowledge for quite some time now.

A press statement boasts "every aspect of the game has been designed to deliver a fresh perspective to the words 'intensity' and 'realism' in video games," with IO Interactive general manager Niels Jorgensen adding, "Gamers are always looking for something new and that is exactly what they are going to get with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days."

"Introducing a new visual experience," the Hitman developer declares, "Dog Days is inspired by documentary filmmakers and the user-generated era" as it probes "the gritty Shanghai underworld." A pair of teaser trailers--included below--offer a distorted security camera perspective, though they of course do not necessarily reflect the game's style.

A Kane & Lynch movie is currently in production, with Bruce Willis set to star as Kane. Dog Days is slated to hit PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2010... Read more

Toy Puppet Controller Showcased in 'Wiiwaa' Trailer

Nov 18, 2009 7:20am CST tags: Wiiwaa, Trailer
While yesterday saw the extremely suspect announcement of a rosary-controlled Christian mass simulator by Prayer Works Interactive, today brings the genuine new trailer for Zoink Games' Wiiwaa, a Wii action adventure controlled with "a special plush toy puppet."

Simply slip your Wiimote inside your plush pal Wiiwaa then "control this little fellow just like a puppeteer would do," creative director Klaus Lyngeled explains in a press release. "Walk, jump, dance, do crazy somersaults--whatever you do with your Wiiwaa puppet directly affects the Wiiwaa in the game... I don't think there has ever been a simpler and more natural way to play a videogame."

Wiiwaa also "requires you to permanently look after the well-being of your Wiiwaa creature and make sure it is clean, well fed and gets enough sleep and recreation."

Zoink is currently seeking a publisher and distribution partners for Wiiwaa.

Facebook Coming to PlayStation 3 in Next Update

Joining the Xbox 360 and Nintendo DSi, the PlayStation 3 is the latest game console to integrate Facebook, as Sony has confirmed that the system's next firmware update--v3.10, due "soon"--will add support for the social networking site.

At this point, linking one's PlayStation Network and Facebook account allows three kinds of automatic Facebook updates--Trophies, PlayStation Store Purchases, Game Events--that can be toggled on or off. "This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features," PlayStation Network operations director Eric Lempel explained on the PlayStation.Blog.

Other changes in the update include a revised look for both Photos and PSN Friends, with the latter stemming from feedback to the tweaks made in the v3.00 update.
