The latest trailer for Tony Hawk: RIDE tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers and explains the odd lineage of the new wireless skateboarding peripheral.

A midday picnic, a roaring fireplace, and a "From here to Eternity"-style beach front make-out session serve as the backdrops for an affair between an Xbox 360 controller and a run-of-the-mill skateboard. It isn't tough to guess the identity of the resulting lovechild.

Ride 'em, sk8r boi.

Tony Hawk: Ride developer Robomodo is planning more games to make use of its motion-sensitive skateboard, president Joshua Tsui has told VideoGamer.

No mere skateboard controller but a plastic portal to countless upright activities.

"We look at it less as a peripheral, as more of a platform," said Tsui. "We want to make sure that people have a good return on their investment so there are many games that are planned." GameSpot has listed Tony Hawk: Ride at $120, skateboard included.

"The obvious ones are snowboarding and surfing and such, but there are a lot of games that can be used with this board, and we're really excited to start working on those."

Tony Hawk: Ride is set for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii this fall.

The skateboard peripheral-packing Tony Hawk: Ride will be sold in a bundle for $120, according to new GameStop listings.

The peripheral uses tilt sensors to control general movement, while infra-red sensors allow players to perform grabs.

According to developer Robomodo, the game will not be playable without the peripheral, as the title's controls have been "finely tuned" for the board.

Tony Hawk: Ride is scheduled for release this fall on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.

Rumours of a motion-sensitive skateboard controller first rose in 2008, with leaked marketing documents touting the ability to "Shift your weight to turn and balance grinds, kick back on the tail of the board to ollie and lean into airs to pull off huge spins."

The latest episode of Gametrailers TV explains that the board uses tilt sensors to control general movement, with infra-red sensors for players to perform... Read more
