The Movies Site Relaunching

Lionhead set out a press release announcing that the The Movies Online site has relaunched with a few new features. Registered users now have 10mb of space to use, while people buying the Stunts & Effects expansion will receive 25mb. The site also allows people to create their own posters to market movies.

There is a new post about the Stunts & Effects expansion pack for The Movies on the Lionhead website, revealing that a Free Cam option will be added. With this Free Cam, players are free to position the camera whereever they want it in any scene.

The Movies Expansion Announced

Though development was already revealed a few weeks ago (story), Activision today officially announced Stunts & Effects, an expansion pack for Lionhead's The Movies. Due out this spring, the expansion pack will add stuntmen, new movie making features, new visual effects and more.
The Movies: Stunts & Effects allows players to hone their movie making skills with features that can turn an ordinary script into an extraordinary blockbuster. In addition to stunts and effects, the game introduces new backdrops, costumes and props, as well as upgrades to the Advanced Movie Making mode that lets players take control of even more movie features. Players are further immersed into the Hollywood lifestyle as they train and manage stuntmen, as well as compete for industry awards and achievements by uploading their movies to www.themoviesgame.com for the entire world to see.

The Movies Expansion Info

The Movies Stunted Growth on Computer & Video Games offers up some info (out of a recent PC Gamer issue) on the previously mentioned expansion pack for The Movies, which has the working title of Stunts & Effects. As you'd expect with a name like that, the expansion pack features laser, water, smoke and electrical effects, while also offering new set pieces for big time stunts. New sets will be included as well, and supposedly the advanced movie-making mode will get an overhaul as well. No release date was mentioned.

Activision sends along a demo for The Movies, allowing you to try out the first five years of the game's story mode. In The Movies you run a Hollywood motion picture studio, and are charge with everything from hiring and firing personnel to maintaining the sets to shooting and editing the films.

The Movies 1.1 Patch Released

The first patch for The Movies is now available, updating the US, UK, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Dutch localized versions of the game to v1.1. The update offers access the PropShop, which features downloadable content for the game including additional costumes, sets, and props.

Lionhead's The Movies community website has been updated, offering a link to various movies submitted this past week (picked from the 3284 movies that went up the past seven days), while also mentioning that a patch is on the way. Due in December, the patch will "fix a few technical issues for some people and also tweak and improve already existing features". Lionhead is also gearing up to release a Propshop tool.
