The path to Mordor the holiday season is a long and treacherous one, with Aragorn's Quest now marking the latest of the increasingly thinning fall lineup to stumble.

Publisher Warner Bros. today confirmed that the family-friendly action-adventure, billed as "first videogame offering an authentic The Lord of the Rings gameplay experience designed for all ages to enjoy," is now due in the vague "spring 2010" window.

No reason was provided for the delay, with the push applying to both Headstrong's Wii version and the PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS and PSP editions in the works at TT Fusion.

Fresh off Warner Bros. Interactive's acquisition of the Lord of the Rings license, a new game set in Middle Earth is on the way from the publisher, according to an official E3 list covering debut titles.

Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest is billed as "the first Lord of the Rings videogame created specifically for kids and their families." The title will feature an "accessible gameplay set in a friendly, colorful rendition of Middle-Earth."

Players will take on the role of hero Aragorn, fighting their way through various quests. Unsurprisingly, sword fighting, lancing and archery are involved.

No platform specifics or release details were included in the blurb. Shacknews has contacted Warner Bros. for more information on the game.
