Two new bits of downloadable content for Starbreeze's The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena were today released for the Xbox 360 version of the shooter.

Currently only available to Xbox Live Gold members, Commentary Mode is a free download said to add four and a half hours of developer commentary to the single-player Escape from Butcher Bay campaign.

Meanwhile, the Premium MP Pack delivers five multiplayer maps--"Munity" (Butcher Bay Riot), "Sneerock" (Deathmatch), "Tracker Star" (Capture the Flag), "Viper Run" (Butcher Bay Riot) and "The Tangle" (Pitch Black)--at the price of 800 MS Points ($10).

No word yet if these add-ons will be coming to the PC and PlayStation 3 editions, though the PlayStation 3's online PlayStation Store should receive its weekly update shortly.

The Chronicles of Riddick DRM Sparks Outcry

Apr 09, 2009 12:22pm CST tags: The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, DRM, Controversy
Reports that the PC version of The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena can only be installed three times have sparked another round of outcry from the extremely vocal PC community, though publisher Atari says these reports aren't entirely accurate.

The PC version of Starbreeze's stealthy first-person shooter does indeed have a three-machine install limit, Atari told Shacknews in a statment, but customers can acquire more activations, assuming "it's a legitimate request," by calling the Atari hotline.

"We implement this protection in an effort to avoid early piracy," explained Atari. "The [initial] activation code lets you install the game on up to 3 machines, with an unlimited number of installs on each assuming that you don't change any major... Read more

Chronicles of Riddick Dev Diary Features a Real Jerk

The developers at Starbreeze put together this lengthy diary of production on The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, explaining the genesis of the project and how it came to be a much larger piece of work than originally planned.

The game--which includes a new campaign in addition to the remastered Escape from Butcher Bay--arrives April 7 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A demo is now available on Xbox Live, with PC and PlayStation 3 demos set to arrive soon.

Riddick Demo Assaults Xbox Live

A downloadable demo for The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is now available to those Xbox 360 owners with Xbox Live Gold accounts. Per usual, it's expected that those without an Xbox Live Gold account will get access after a few days.

The 639MB demo samples the single-player "Athena Main Decks" level. Given that name, the demo is probably culled from the new Assault on Dark Athena campaign, not the remade Escape from Butcher Bay campaign also contained in the game.

Developed by Starbreeze, the full version of the gritty first-person shooter hits PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on April 7. A PlayStation 3 demo is slated to arrive at some point in March. A PC demo is on the way too, but it has no firm release estimate.

Riddick Remake Packs Entirely New Sequel

Dec 03, 2008 10:24am CST tags: The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
While we've known for a while that Starbreeze's The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena would be an enhanced remake of the previous Riddick game with new content, it turns out that the new content amounts to a 10-hour single-player sequel.

The new campaign packs "new game mechanics, full-game production values ... the works," according to Joystiq, with Big Download clarifying that the campaign is a "direct sequel" to the original and is immediately accessible upon booting the game.

The scope of the new campaign stems from the first-person shooter's recent publisher-related delay. After the game was dropped by ex-publisher Sierra, Atari picked the game up, a move that allowed for more than nine months of additional work.

Along with the new campaign, Athena will include a new multiplayer mode and an enhanced version of Starbreeze's 2004 release The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (PC, Xbox). Expect Dark Athena to hit PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in spring 2009.
