Sierra to Shut Down Starsiege: Tribes in August, GarageGames to the Rescue?

A recent notice posted on Sierra Entertainment's website lists Dynamix's groundbreaking multiplayer shooter Starsiege: Tribes amongst a list of games set to lose multiplayer functionality as of next month.

The games, which include Papyrus' NASCAR Racing, Field & Stream Trophy Hunting 4, and Field & Stream Trophy Bass 5, will be discontinued on August 16. A full list of the affected titles can be found here.

What did you expect, a gone gold announcement? Of course not, there haven't been enough screenshots just yet. Gamesurf has lots of "vehicle action" here and Evil Avatar also has some new screenshots from the beta. The beta version is currently on hold actually, while the team is fixing several issues that have come up so far.

Dynamix has released the version 1.9 patches for Starsiege TRIBES. You can grab them from the Tribesplayers website here.Thanks to Ryan Stotts for the word.

1.9 Patch Update for TRIBES:

- Fixed a health kit bug/cheat issue.
- Fixed armor/damage level bug.
- Fixed a server crash bug issue.
- Fixed OpenGL "black bug" with new maps.

TRIBES Extreme Canned

Got some bummer news for you TRIBES fans out there, TRIBES Extreme has been cancelled as a retail product. The explanation from Nels Bruckner is the project proved to be more complex than anticipated so instead they decided to use the project as a development testbed for TRIBES2. Also included in the announcement is a nifty new screenshot of TRIBES2. PlanetStarsiege has a quick Q&A on the matter as well.

Oh yeah, sorry about dissapearing for a while. I've come down with a bit of a cold. blech. I've put the Quake3 messageboard back online now.
