Robot Chicken Writers Create Spore DLC

May 19, 2009 3:13pm CST tags: Spore Galactic Adventures
In promotion of Spore Galactic Adventures--which allows players to create elaborate quests in the Spore universe--the team behind Cartoon Network's comedy series Robot Chicken has created a DLC pack for the release of the expansion.

The DLC was conceived by Robot Chicken creators Seth Green and Matt Senreich and created by the show's writing staff. According to EA, the missions contain "exploding poo, angry yetis, ruler wielding librarians, and more!"

"We're big fans of Spore, so teaming up on Spore Galactic Adventures was a natural fit and so much fun for all the guys at Robot Chicken," said Green.

Added Senreich: "Instead of creating absurd worlds with toys, this gave us the opportunity to create literally anything we wanted as gamers. Geek moment. We think that RC fans will love the pretty random and absurd adventures we created and we can't wait to goof around with the ones the fans create."

Spore Galactic Adventures hits the PC on June 23.

Spore Galactic Adventures Preview: Now You Can Create the Game Part, Too

Jan 22, 2009 2:27pm CST tags: Spore Galactic Adventures, Preview
It's hard to think of a game that collapsed under the weight of its own hype faster than Spore--at least in the eyes of the core PC gaming community.

And yet, as flawed as it undeniably was, Spore did make great strides in the area of user-created content. Maxis claims that over 65 million creations now inhabit the Sporepedia, which is still growing at a rate of 200,000 works per day. Making creatures and spaceships was fun.

No, Spore wasn't so much lacking in the creation department--it was the provided game modes, though charming in concept, that didn't hold up. And at the end of the day, it's hard to become invested in your creations when there isn't much to do with them.

Maxis' solution to this problem was to leverage the strength of its creation tools to solve that lack of gameplay depth, killing two birds with one editor. The result--Galactic Adventures--is, quite simply, a game creator.... Read more
