The Mummy Video Game Due July 22

May 08, 2008 11:44am CST tags: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Sierra, Screenshots, A2M, Eurocom
Publisher Sierra has announced that video game based off the upcoming film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will hit PlayStation 2, Wii, and Nintendo DS on July 22, a few days shy of the movie's August 1 release.

The Nintendo DS version of the third-person action title is being handled by WET creators A2M, while Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy and Ice Age 2: The Meltdown developer Eurocom has been tasked with the PlayStation 2 and Wii editions. The game is also said to feature "hieroglyphic decoding gameplay elements."

The title continues the Brendan Fraser-centric franchise's tradition of cross-marketing video games alongside the films. The first movie was accompanied by a video game release on the PlayStation, the sequel had PlayStation 2 and Game Boy Color renditions, and the Scorpion King spin-off appeared on PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance.

Sierra Online Hands-On: Aces of the Galaxy and Commanders

Oct 12, 2007 3:27pm CST tags: XBLA, Games: PC & Console, Sierra
I went hands-on with several upcoming Xbox Live Arcade and PC downloadable titles at a recent Sierra Online event, and found a couple games that realize their classic gaming-inspired heritage in a more pleasing way than most Xbox Live ripoffs.

Both Artech's nice-looking rail-shooter Aces of the Galaxy (PC, X360) and SouthEnd Interactive's art deco turn-based strategy title Commanders: Attack of the Genos (PC, X360) seem like they'll be worth at least their cheaper downloadable prices when they come out this winter. Read on for a dual preview of both titles, and check out the galleries for new screenshots of both Aces of the Galaxy and Commanders.

Sierra and developer Artificial Mind and Movement (A2M) today announced WET, a third-person, single-player action title starring a Lara Croftian character named Rubi.

Using a combination of firearms and katanas, Rubi will utilize moves such as the "taint-splitter," a special attack ending with a groin-slicing slash. Displaying flashy back-flips and acrobatic moves, IGN refers to the character as "Prince of Persia, but with the body of a goddess."

Sierra Reorganized

Aug 14, 2001 5:00pm CST tags: Industry News: PC & Console, Sierra
The recent closing of Dynamix was the first sign of this, but Stomped has posted a press release announcing a major reorganization of Sierra On-Line. The announcement says that the company will be continuing development of their "key franchises" including Tribes, SWAT, and the ever-popular Hoyle's card game series. At this time the only known Tribes product in the works is the Playstation 2 title, with the status of a Tribes 2 add-on and sequel completely up in the air. Also included is word that 97 people were laid off with the closing of Dynamix, and a whopping 148 more will be let go from Sierra's Bellvue office.

update: My apologies for using such a dorky word as whopping.

Sierra Announcements

Sep 01, 2000 2:43pm CST tags: Games: PC, Sierra
What would this day be without some fresh press releases from Sierra huh? Well here they, officially announcing the Gunman Chrononicles product (based on the Half-Life engine) as well as a big $50k Tribes2 tournament. On Gunman Chronicles

As the first stand alone release built on the Half-Life engine Gunman Chronicles expands on all the amazing effects and frighteningly realistic artificial intelligence that made Half-Life the undisputed king of first-person action games. In development by Rewolf Software, Gunman Chronicles is set in the western spiral of the galaxy, five years after a horrifying alien infestation. The adventure leads players to four unexplored planets with an amazing variety of habitats for enemies, features 40+ hours of gameplay, customizable weapons allowing for 32 variations of arsenal, original sound and music, and 30 new monsters to wage heart-stopping battle. In addition, Gunman Chronicles includes multiplayer modes for up to 32 players via LAN and Internet connections.

Gunman was originally planned as a Quake1 TC and is now a stand alone retail product so it's come a real long way.
Also, next year Sierra will be holding the Tribes2 World Domination tournament with a grand prize of $50,000. Tribes from Europe, America and Asia will be competing.

Sierra Interview

With the big announcement of the Babylon5 game being canned which has so many people up in arms, AVault has conducted an interview with David Grenewetzki, the president of Sierra Online. Also of interest is this quote confirming that Half-Life2 is indeed in development over at Valve (from page2):

He has working in his organization the SWAT guys and the guys from Troika, the former Fallout team who are now building a new product with us. Moving forward, we have Homeworld, which just shipped, and its sequel, Homeworld 2, which we are currently evaluating at this time. Also coming from Valve are Team Fortress 2 as well as Half-Life 2, and Mark’s got an incredible design team in Impressions Games, probably the most successful group within Sierra, which is shipping Pharaoh, an incredible title, this year.
