Peter Moore Leaves Microsoft to Lead EA Sports, Ex-EA Exec Mattrick to Join Microsoft (Updated)

Peter Moore and Don Mattrick Update: An SEC filing from Electronic Arts today revealed Peter Moore's salary at his upcoming position to be $550,000 per year, with a potential annual bonus of $412,500. And the kicker: a one-time signing bonus of $1.5 million. Other perks include $330,000 for relocation, a stock option of 350,000 shares, and 50,000 restricted shares.

Original story: Electronic Arts and Microsoft have announced that outspoken Microsoft VP Peter Moore (pictured left) will leave his position at the Redmond-based Xbox manufacturer to take a post as president of EA Sports. Moore will relocate to EA's Redwood Shores headquarters as a result of the move, and will begin his new job in September.

Replacing Moore at Microsoft will be Don Mattrick (pictured right), a longtime EA executive who has for the past six months been serving as an external advisor to Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division, where Moore served as corporate VP. Mattrick will take his position at Microsoft on July 30.

E3 07: Wii Zapper Gun Peripheral This Fall

During Nintendo's E3 press conference today, Nintendo of America revealed the Wii Zapper, a gun-like controller housing for both the Wii remote and nunchuk attachment. The peripheral, which will sell for $19.99, resembles an SMG and will release this fall. It will be packaged with Nintendo-developed software; specific details regarding the software were not revealed.

Nintendo pointed to a variety of games designed for use with the Wii Zapper, including Capcom's Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Sega's Ghost Squad, and a new Medal of Honor game from EA.

E3 07: 22 Games Rocking Xbox Live in '07

Microsoft ran off a list of more than 20 games coming to Xbox Live Arcade this year during their Santa Monica E3 press conference. Two classic titles will be available on the service today: Sega's speed-platformer Sonic the Hedgehog and the hack-and-slash brawler Golden Axe.

Also confirmed for a 2007 release were Bomberman Live, Undertow, Hexic 2, War World, Sensible World of Soccer, Every Extend Extra Extreme, Geon, Wing Commander Arena, Feeding Frenzy 2, Track and Field, Spyglass Board Games, Space Giraffe, Super Puzzle Fighter II, Word Puzzle, Marathon: Durandal, Poker Smash, Switchball, Tetris Splash, Puzzle Quest, and Boku Sudoku.

Sega Sells Bleach on Wii, DS

Bleach Sega today announced Bleach: Shattered Blade and Bleach: The Blade of Fate, two fighting games set for release on the Wii and Nintendo DS, respectively. Based on the hit anime series, the Bleach titles follow the exploits of a fifteen-year-old named Ichigo, who has the power to see spirits from the afterlife.

Combat in Bleach will be primarily sword-based. On the Wii version--developed by Polygon Magic--players will be able to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as weapons, as well as use special powers and summon supernatural allies for support. Virtua Fighter 5 To Have Online Play on Xbox 360

In a first for the series, Sega's Virtua Fighter 5 on Xbox 360 will allow players to duke it out over Xbox Live when the game retails this fall.

No past Virtua Fighter titles have featured online play--including the version of Virtua Fighter 5 released earlier this year on the PlayStation 3.

The Xbox 360 release will include all the features of arcade version C, whereas the PlayStation 3 release was based on arcade version B. Differences in the two arcade versions are minor, being mostly tweaks and balances.

Gas Powered Games Takes Sieging from Dungeons to Space

Developer Gas Powered Games plans to expand upon the dungeon-crawling action RPG gameplay it employed in its Dungeon Siege series with its upcoming Space Siege. In a partnership with publisher Sega, the Redmond-based studio will deliver Space Siege for PC in Q1 2008.

Space Siege thrusts its protagonist Seth Walker into what is claimed to be a dynamic storyline set aboard a colony ship housing the last remaining members of humanity. Gameplay hinges on the continual choice of retaining Walker's humanity or adding on cybernetic upgrades that afford increased abilities but damage Walker's relationships with his fellow humans. That choice plays into the narrative elements of the game, affecting NPC reactions and plot paths.

Universe at War to Support PC to Xbox 360 Play

Universe at War: Earth AssaultPetroglyph's upcoming real-time strategy game Universe at War: Earth Assault will support cross-platform multiplayer gaming between Xbox 360 and PC, publisher Sega announced today. Publisher and developer D3Publisher of America has announced that it will be purchasing developer Vicious Cycle Software for an undisclosed sum. Vicious Cycle will now operate as a subsidiary of D3PA, with its current upper management and Chapel Hill, North Carolina location unaffected by the ownership shift.

D3PA previously handled the publishing of Vicious Cycle's past work, including its PSP version of Infinite Interactive's Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords and Flushed Away (PS2, GCN). 2K Games Closes NYC Office, Heads West

Following parent company Take-Two Interactive's announcement of its sixth consecutive quarterly loss, wholly-owned subsidiary 2K Games has closed its New York City offices. Take-Two will move the publisher to the West Coast, with some 2K staff apparently being let go amidst the shuffle.

Project Sylpheed Demo Hits Xbox Live

Project Sylpheed A demo for the arcade space-shooter Project Sylpheed (X360) is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Based on the top-scrolling shooter Silpheed, which saw release on the PC and Sega CD, Project Sylpheed was developed by Game Arts and published by Square Enix.

While the original Silpheed titles were fixed-path shooters, this spiritual sequel gives you full control over your ship as you battle through hordes of enemy fighters. Ship upgrades can be carried out in between battles, and for those wanting more than a simple arcade shooter, a full storyline is told through 50 minutes of cutscenes.

Project Sylpheed is set to hit stores on July 10th, at the affordable price of $40.
