Zombie Studios' licensed Saw video game lives on--even if its characters may not--as Konami has confirmed that it's signed the project and plans to release it this fall.

It's now slated to launch alongside the theatrical release of Saw VI, the publisher told Variety's The Cut Scene blog. In addition, the site was provided with the first screenshots of the upcoming PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 game, rehosted above. The fate of the torturous game became murky last year after former publisher Brash imploded.

As for the actual gameplay, players find themselves in an asylum filled with devious traps by series antagonist and/or life coach Jigsaw. They and can either solve the puzzles of the traps, and thus save folks, or leave the victims to Jigsaw's grim devices.

Report: Saw Game Loses Publisher, Nearly Done

The closure of Brash Entertainment has left the Saw video game without funding and a publisher, horror-centric site Bloody-Disgusting claims to have learned via sources.

The game, based on the Lionsgate horror film series and targeted for an October 2009 release, was apparently "nearing completion," with voice over work already in the can.

Zombie Studios is reportedly developing the project. Though revealed nearly 12 months ago, platforms for the Unreal Engine 3-powered game are not yet confirmed.

Brash's final release, the movie-inspired flick The Tale of Despereaux, was picked up by Atari when the company went under, Variety reports. However, the game was already in manufacturing, so the initial packaging will not display an Atari logo.

Other games left homeless include Prison Break, a new Superman game from Factor 5, Six Flags Fun Park, and a game inspired by the Spartan epic 300.

Founded last summer, Brash Entertainment focused on outsourcing video games based on licensed properties, with the licensed property bit described by co-founder Bert Ellis as "the safest, most lucrative way to sell a video game."

A game based on the Lionsgate's cringe-inducing horror film franchise Saw will torture unknown platforms alongside the theatrical release of the next movie in October 2009.

Word of the title came from a teaser shown recent Brash Entertainment press event, with series puppet-villain Jigsaw (pictured left), confident in the belief of betterment through torture, informing IGN that games journalists are wasting their lives.

No developer or platforms were specified, though the company did note that the game is powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3, a move that suggests PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 editions. Thanks to involvement of the filmmakers, the title will tie into the events of the movies. A teaser site has also been launched, though at this time it only features a sign-up form for eventual related e-mails.

Brash is also known to be working on a video game adaptation of Jumper (PS2, X360, Wii) and Zach Snyder's 300, and was responsible for last winter's Alvin and the Chipmunks (PC, PS2, Wii, DS).
