Valve's Robin Walker on New Team Fortress 2 Content, Future Maps, Awesomeball

In the midst of barroom chaos during Valve's party in downtown San Francisco last night, I pulled Team Fortress 2 director Robin Walker aside for a short impromptu chat.

Highlights? How about a TF2 map with a moving fortress? And don't miss his comments on the Shacker-created map CP_Redstone. Click on through for the full interview.

Robin Walker: Like anything else, we're going to listen to the community, see what they like. If everyone hated [Goldrush], we probably wouldn't do another one. That's one of the things sort of our philosophy--we never think we're smart enough to know what our customers like. So we want as much as possible to just get it in front of customers and listen to what they say. If they say they want more of it, then we'll do more of it. Read more..

Robin Walker Interview

PlanetFortress has been featuring a bunch of articles and so forth after a visit to Valve Software. They dont talk about any future products like TF2/HL2 but there is a pretty good quote about how seriously they are taking online cheating in an interview with Robin Walker

We’re getting smarter about our cheat prevention stuff. We’re learning all the time. Every one we fix just makes us smarter. So far, everything that we've really concentrated on, we've been able nail down. So, we’re pretty optimistic. There have been a few that have been there for a while that are kind of tricky, but we have good ideas on how to stop them. I think one thing that sets us apart from most of the other online games is that we consider these important as an error that's causing everyone out there to crash on startup. Cheats are probably the number one way to destroy the community. We really, really want to remove them and so we do everything we can to stop them.

They are always going to come out, though, and we'll keep fixing them. Eventually they'll get tired. After all, we’re getting paid to solve these problems, but they're not getting paid to make them.

Ok, now fix the wallhack! :)
