Small Dev Steals Assets from Countless Games, Including Oblivion, Wolfenstein, World of Warcraft

Update 3: More comparisons surfaced overnight, revealing that Limbo of the Lost apparently contains background elements of Gray Matter's Return to Castle Wolfenstein, World of Warcraft artwork, and a shocking number of Unreal Tournament 2004 maps.

"This is not an old game that has been dressed up," director Steve Bovis once told QuandaryLand. It is also worth noting that developer Majestic was planning a sequel to Limbo of the Lost and was seeking a new background artist for the project.

Given the sheer number of similarities from so many different games, it is extremely unlikely that all of the duplicate assets are a result of a common texture pack, as was the case with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s apparent use of Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 elements.

Enemy Territory Fritz Bot Availabe

Maleficus sends along word that his Fritz Bot for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is now available. The bots are aware of objectives, the game's offensive and defensive phases, and the needs of teammates. Sounds impressive.

Activision sends along a new Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory patch, updating the multiplayer game to v2.60. There are some minor server and client engine optimizations, anisotropic texture filtering support has been added and there are some various other changes/additions as well. An updated Linux release (and patch) is available as well.

Enemy Territory Fortress Released

id's Next, On RTCW2

In another G4/Tech TV piece Todd Hollenshead talked about what's next for id, which is an all-new property. He also mentioned Return to Castle Wolfenstein 2 is in development, though didn't say what company is developing it. EuroGamer is speculating the developer might be Splash Damage, contributor to DOOM3's multiplayer maps (and they did Wolfenstein: Enemy Terroritory). In a job posting from a while ago the UK based studio mentions "In a continuation of our successful collaboration with id Software and Activision we have started production of a new full game based on the cutting-edge Doom 3 engine".

If you still haven't picked up Return of Castle Wolfenstein or for some reason want to pay for Enemy Territory, Activion and id Software have announced that Return to Castle Wolfenstein: The Platinum Edition is now in stores. For $29.99 you'll get the original Gray Matter Entertainment game and Enemy Territory which you can also find on FileShack.

Activision sends along word that they'll be releasing a new patch for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory later today. The 1.02 update includes several client and server fixes, including a fix for the bugs where private slots on a passworded server weren't working and no stats were being kept for kills with the akimbo pistols.

As promised, Activision has released a Windows and Linux server update for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. The patch improves server stability and updates the Even Balance anti-cheating software. Clients don't need this patch.

As promised, the full release of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is here. You can grab the Windows or the Linux build. The free class-based multiplayer game comes with six maps and is a 258mb download. You do not need Return to Castle Wolfenstein to play it.

Activision let us know that Splash Damage's free, stand-alone, multiplayer game Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is nearly finished and will be released early next week. Here's what Activision had to say, go here for three new screenshots.
We wanted to update everyone on Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory progress. Thanks to dedicated gamers and testers, we've been working on fixing bugs and other issues that have been uncovered in the recently released map test. We've also been following feedback in the community to help us address any balance issues. We're in the final phases of testing and tweaking and hope to be ready to release the full, free, stand-alone game Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory early next week.
