Resistance PSP Hooks Up to PS3 Resistance 2: Gains New Mode, DualShock 3 Controls

Oct 09, 2008 2:07pm CST tags: Resistance: Retribution, Resistance 2, TGS 08
Sony's Bend Studio, developer of the PSP shooter Resistance: Retribution, borrows more than the name from Insomniac's PS3 shooter series. The handheld game can be modified by Insomniac's upcoming Resistance 2 if connected to a PlayStation 3.

"Once you connect to [Resistance 2], Resistance: Retribution becomes 'Infected,'" exclaims a presentation slide from the Tokyo Game Show appearing on the PlayStation Blog. The Infected version of Retribution grants an alternate storyline, health regeneration, underwater breathing, and weapons borrowed from the PS3 game.

While connected to a PS3, Retribution will also support the DualShock 3 controller. With the console controller, auto-aim is turned off and the difficulty is ramped up while vibration support is enabled. Players can also use the PSP-2000 and 3000's video output feature to replicate a traditional console experience.

On an aside, seven new screenshots for Retribution were released, which can be found on Shacknews. The portable shooter is still on track for a spring 2009 release.

Resistance 2 Interview: Ted Price Speaks on Gears of War Rivalry, Games Legislation and the Future

Sep 30, 2008 3:45pm CST tags: Resistance 2, Interview
In between bouts of Insomniac's Resistance 2 (PS3) at a recent press event, I had the chance to sit down with creative director and studio founder Ted Price.

In addition to Resistance 2, Price discussed the surprising sales of the recent downloadable Ratchet game, the misconception that Gears of War and Resistance are rivals, along with his thoughts on games legislation, the future of the games industry and just how someone with an English degree can helm a game development studio.

Ted Price: I think that a lot of the press would like to set us up as rivals, because it makes for an interesting story.

If I own a PlayStation 3 and an Xbox 360, which I do, I'm gonna get both [Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2]. Because what I want is the best games to play on my platforms, and that certainly helps us, it helps Epic, it helps Microsoft, it helps Sony. There's nothing wrong with having two great games out on two separate platforms. Read more...

Resistance 2 Hands-on Preview: The Best Shooter of 2008?

Sep 29, 2008 4:07pm CST tags: Resistance 2, Preview
To say that developer Insomniac is confident in Resistance 2, its upcoming PlayStation 3 first person shooter sequel, would a bit of an understatement.

At a recent press event in New York, studio president and R2 creative director Ted Price declared that the title's single-player campaign, 8-person online co-op play and 60-person online competitive multiplayer combine to form the "biggest game and the best game that we've ever made."

Multiplayer lead Mike Roloson backed him up, claiming that "Resistance 2's multiplayer is not only going to be the biggest multiplayer experience on the PS3, but also one of the most in-depth," while co-op lead Jake Biegel stated that the developer is "convinced that we are going to be revolutionizing online cooperative gaming."

"It's all about offering more than any shooter in 2008, but at the same time, being the best," Price added. "We really believe that Resistance 2 delivers on both counts."

Going by the game's lackluster showing at E3, I wasn't too sure I bought into that. But now that I've had a chance to play each of the title's three main modes, I'm convinced that, if nothing else, Resistance 2 is shaping up to be a worthy sequel... Read more

Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet Hit UK in September; Resistance 2 Slated for November UK Release

Mar 26, 2008 12:08pm CST tags: Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2
Sony Computer Entertainment has provided a tentative timetable of this fall's major PlayStation 3 releases, videogamer reports.

According to the site, Media Molecule's cutesy and customizable platformer LittleBigPlanet (PS3) will arrive in the UK alongside Guerrilla Games' long-awaited first-person shooter Killzone 2 (PS3) this September.

Insomniac's launch title sequel Resistance 2 (PS3), SCE's other major first person shooter, will then hit UK retailers in November, complete with 60-person multiplayer and 8-player online co-op.

The November timeframe puts Resistance 2 in direct competition with Epic's Gears of War 2 (X360), just as the original Resistance faced off against the first Gears of War (X360) entry in November 2006.

Though Sony Computer Entertainment has yet to confirm North American release dates for the above titles, such major PlayStation 3 releases have been marked by near-simultaneous releases in North America and Europe.

The publisher previously expressed its intent to ship Resistance 2 in North America this fall, with a worldwide global release of LittleBigPlanet in that same general timeframe.

Insomniac Unveils Resistance 2: Fall 2008 Release, 8-player Online Co-op, 60-person Online MP

Jan 11, 2008 1:24pm CST tags: Insomniac, Resistance 2
Insomniac Games' next project is a sequel to its PS3 launch FPS Resistance: Fall of Man, the studio has revealed in the latest issue of gaming publication Game Informer.

Slated to arrive on the PS3 this fall, Resistance 2 will follow the continuing exploits of protagonist Nathan Hale and his struggles against the alien-esque Chimera. Along with the main adventure, up to 8 players can engage in a separate campaign via online co-op, one of the original's most requested features.

Insomniac also promises up to 60 players per match in the game's online competitive multiplayer, which will allow players to split into individual squads, each with their own unique objective, along with multiple character classes. The first Resistance supported a maximum of 40 players per match.

The projected fall release continues Insomniac's tradition of annual Q4 titles, which it has recently maintained with Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3) in November 2007, Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3) in November 2006, and Ratchet: Deadlocked (PS2) in October 2005.
