Newest Resistance Patch Adds DualShock3 Support

A new patch for Insomniac's PlayStation 3 shooter Resistance: Fall of Man is now available, SCEA line producer Greg Phillips announced today on the official PlayStation Blog.

Like the upcoming Warhawk update, the Resistance patch includes rumble support in preparation of Sony's upcoming vibration-enabled DualShock3 controller, retailing in North America this spring. The patch will also allow players to take screenshots with a USB keyboard.

Several gameplay tweaks and bug fixes have also been added. The patch is the sixth game-enhancing update to arrive since the title's debut during the PlayStation 3 launch last year.

Ratchet Demo, More Resistance Content For PSN

A demo of Insomniac Games' upcoming Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3) and more content for the company's PlayStation 3 launch title Resistance: Fall of Man are headed to the PlayStation Network.

"I can confirm that the demo [of Ratchet & Clank Future] will be downloadable via the PlayStation Store," said Insomniac Games marketing director Ryan Schneider in an interview with Shacknews. "What Sony chooses to do with it, and when, it really is in their hands. The [E3] demo is finished...and when it comes out, we have a rough idea, but you never know. I think the PlayStation Store is a fluid storefront, and anything can happen."

Sony Publicly Apologizes For Resistance Snafu

Resistance: Fall of Man Following the Church of England's public uproar over a virtual location in Insomniac Games' PlayStation 3 launch title Resistance: Fall of Man and console manufacturer Sony's private apology, the company has taken out a full-page ad in the Manchester Evening News to publicly apologize.

"It was never our intention to offend anyone in the making of this game, and we would like to apologise unreservedly to them for causing that offence, and to all parts of the community who might also have been offended," wrote Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves, according to GamesIndustry.biz.

Friday Resistance Downloads Add Maps, Lips

The fourth update for Insomniac's shooter Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3) is set to go live at 9am Pacific on Friday, adding new features and bug fixes. In addition, the previously announced map pack will be available for $7.99, offering the new multiplayer maps Westmorland (screenshot) and Camborne (screenshot). Servers for the game will be offline through tonight and tomorrow morning in preparation for the patch.

With the update, Resistance servers will be compatible with worldwide connections, allowing players to compete against each other no matter their locations. Facial animation and lip syncing have been added for machinima fans. New map voting options, player muting, and ranked match balancing improvements are just a few of the many changes. Patch notes are available here. Players will be prompted to install the update when connecting online.

Resistance: Fall of Man The inclusion of Manchester Cathedral in a portion of Resistance: Fall of Man (pictured left), independent developer Insomniac Games' PlayStation 3 first person shooter, has the Church of England seeking action from publisher Sony. According to Church officials, Sony and Insomniac never received the proper approval to recreate the location, prompting the Church to demand Sony not only apologize, but donate a portion of the games' profits to the cathedral's educational department, support anti-violence campaigns in Manchester, and remove or modify the location from the game so that it no longer resembles the cathedral.
