A new red flavor of Xbox 360 was today announced by Microsoft, set to accompany Capcom's upcoming horror sequel Resident Evil 5 in a limited edition bundle.

The bundle, available for the March 13 release of Resident Evil 5, will include a red Xbox 360 Elite with a 120 GB hard drive, along with Resident Evil 5 and several extras for $399--the exact same price as the vanilla Xbox 360 Elite model.

The full bundle contains the following:

I'm finding it hard to talk about Resident Evil 5, in the same way that one would have a hard time talking about the kid that dropped out of school. I had such hopes.

My love for Resident Evil 4 is no secret. It was a rare late-in-the-series sequel that redefined the franchise without reshaping it, keeping the concept intact while upping the action and atmosphere. It was fundamentally well-designed, with brilliant mechanics and stages, and an unusual amount of memorable gaming sequences.

Going into the anticipated "next-gen" sequel, I didn't expect, or even necessarily want, Capcom to attempt to top its most recent masterpiece. Instead, I figured I'd be happy with similar gameplay, the addition of co-op, and a few surprises.

You would think hitting the water would protect you from peril in Resident Evil 5 (PS3, X360), but as you can see in this new set of screenshots, that is not true. Resident Evil 5 hits PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 13. A two stage demo is currently available from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace.

The Xbox 360 demo for Resident Evil 5 was downloaded 1.8 million times in the week following its January 26 release in Europe and North America, setting a new record. In fact, Microsoft says the demo surpassed 1.3 million downloads in its first three days.

And while Microsoft merely referred to Resident Evil 5 as being "among the top demo launches on the service," the previous known record holder, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, took eight days for its demo to reach a million Xbox Live downloads.

During those initial three days, the free zombie-shooting demo was restricted to Xbox Live Gold members. After January 29, it was made available to all Xbox Live members, with the PlayStation 3 demo available today via the PlayStation Store.

The strong North American and European performance follows that of the earlier Japanese demo, which was downloaded by 53% of Xbox Live Gold members in Japan.

Back when live-action cutscenes were all the rage, the original Resident Evil featured some of the most amusing efforts, along with some incredibly cheesy voice acting.

Though later games, including Resident Evil 5, embraced CG cutscenes, Capcom's Kijuju-centric viral marketing campaign for the upcoming sequel pays homage to those old times, while still offering a brief glimpse of zombie-riffic gameplay.

As it's been nearly two weeks since Capcom announced a January 26 release for the Resident Evil 5 demo for North America, now is probably good time to remind you that Xbox Live Gold subscribers can today download and play the Xbox 360 demo.

Packing two stages along with both offline and online cooperative multiplayer, the Xbox Live Marketplace download weighs in at 473 MB. PlayStation 3 owners will be able to snag the zombie-shooting demo next week from the online PlayStation Store.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Resident Evil 5 will hit North American and European retailers on March 13, with the Japanese version arriving on March 5.

Capcom has given us a look at the upcoming Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition with the following shots. The collectible extras will include a "Tricell messenger bag, Chris Redfield figurine, BSAA patch and Kijuju-inspired pendant." A second disc will include "The Making of Resident Evil 5" feature, a digital art gallery, and a Resident Evil Degeneration trailer.

The Kijuju-sized collector's edition will hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, running $90 when it is released alongside the $60 standard edition on March 13.

It's been a long, painful wait since the Resident Evil 5 demo hit Japan, but things are finally looking up. Developer Capcom has announced that the downloadable demo will "exclusively" hit the North American Xbox Live Marketplace on Monday, January 26.

The PlayStation 3 demo will follow the next week, its release expected to coincide with the PlayStation Store update on Thursday, February 5. As with the Japanese demo, the download will pack two stages along with online and offline co-op support.

Similar to other recent offerings, the availability of the Resident Evil 5 demo is expected to be limited to Xbox Live Gold subscribers during its week of exclusivity. The last demo billed as an Xbox 360 exclusive, Skate 2, saw its PS3 release held back by one week, while Xbox Live ads promoted its temporary exclusivity to Xbox Live Gold members.

Both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Resident Evil 5 storm into North American and European retailers on March 13, with the Japanese release on March 5.

The downloadable Resident Evil 5 demo for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will hit North America in "early 2009," developer and publisher Capcom tells MTV Multiplayer.

Though the Xbox 360 demo was released in Japan last week, complete with an English localization, Capcom blamed unspecified complications for the domestic delay.

The demo packs two stages, including an appearance by the axe-swinging jerkface you see above, and supports both online and offline cooperative play in addition to single-player. The full version of the survival horror action game hits retailers on March 13.

Update: Capcom has confirmed to Shacknews that the downlodable Resident Evil 5 demo will hit both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America, though there is no announced timeframe.

The company hopes to pin down a specific demo date "soon," noting that the North American demo will arrive later than the Japanese version. Capcom also reaffirmed that Resident Evil 5 is on track for a March 13 release in North America and Europe, despite Capcom Japan bumping the Japanese release up to March 5.

Capcom has released a load of new screenshots from its upcoming horror sequel Resident Evil 5, highlighting dangerous zombie dogs, exciting motorcycle chases, and broken ladders.

Resident Evil 5 is still expected to ship March 13 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

A playable demo for Capcom's Resident Evil 5 (360, PS3) is in the cards for fans excited to get their hands on the latest in the best-selling survival horror series without having to pay.

"We'll be making an announcement about that relatively soon," producer Jun Takeuchi told Eurogamer, adding that the company is also considering downloadable content. "People seem to want it, so it's possible that it's something we would like to respond to," said Takeuchi.

Interestingly, the team may be working to avoid the long installation process that accompanied the PS3 edition of Devil May Cry 4, which required a one-time installation of 5GB on the system's hard drive before the game could be played.

"We're still working on those technical elements in the last couple of months, but we can tell you that if users are dissatisfied with that kind of thing, then it's certainly something we keep in mind when we develop," explained Takeuchi. "We'll do our best to come up with something that users will not criticize, but love."

The survival horror sequel, offering chainsaws, co-op play, a cover system, lots of gore, and a control scheme all inspired by Gears of War, releases March 13, 2009. A PC version may follow after the initial console release.

Update: Following a Shacknews inquiry regarding a PC version of Resident Evil 5, Capcom neither confirmed nor or denied its existence.

In its response, the company merely stated that "Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will hit retail shelves on Friday the 13, March 2009 in North America and Europe," leaving the door open for a later PC release a la most Capcom PC games.

Original Story: The oft-speculated PC port of Resident Evil 5 (PS3, 360) appears to have been confirmed, as Capcom lists a PC version of the zombie-killing survival game alongside the console editions in a release schedule sent to MCV.

The list shows Resident Evil 5 PC shipping in the UK on March 13, the same day as the console versions. However, the same list also shows a simultaneous PC-console release of Street Fighter IV, something Capcom has previously denied.

In keeping with the tradition established by other Capcom releases, such as Lost Planet, Devil May Cry 4 and the impending Street Fighter IV, it is far more likely that the PC version of Resident Evil 5 will arrive a few months after the console releases.
