Quake4 Fakes

Dec 07, 2002 4:28pm CST tags: Quake 4
We've had a painful number of people email in about the fake Quake4 footage floating around out there lately, here's official word from Rick Johnson at Raven who is working on the game when he isnt hustling the ladies:

12/7/2002
Just wanted to make a quick update in saying that there has been a recent flood of fake Quake4 movies  and trailers. Everything on the internet is fake and nothing Quake4 related has ever been released,  except for the one piece of concept art released at the initial announcement of the project.

Of course, nothing can really compare to the DOOM3 fakes we have hosted here.

The Quake 4 Virus

Raven's Rick Johnson updated his .plan file warning people not to download a supposed Quake 4 demo. It's nothing more than a virus.

Quake4 Wish List

3DAP has a little piece listing off the top10 things they would like to see in Quake4 which of course leads to the little morning discussion. What would you like to see? Given that it's already been stated by Raven that Quake4 will be set in the Quake2 universe... How close to that universe should the game stick? Am I the only one who wasnt really aware of a story in Quake2? Ah well here's a few things I'd like to see:

- If you must have ladders, make them not suck. (Impossible in an FPS?)
- Boobies and Monster Trucks
- If I shoot a guy with a teeny pistol, try not tl let him do that back flip death animation?
- Keys, crates, and jump puzzles..

Ok.. I cant really come up with what else I'd like to see in Quake4. There are no specific nitpicks that can really dictate if a game is fun as a whole... and really that's all I care about. Make Quake4 fun, thanks!

Quake4 & Noname Game

Aug 31, 2001 2:35pm CST tags: Activision, id Software, Quake 4
Activision has sent out the official PR announcing that they will be publishing Quake4 as well as the "new as yet untitled game" both being called id Software games. As was announced at QuakeCon Quake4 will be developed by Raven Software, and the untitled product is the teamplay oriented multiplayer game that Nerve Software announced that they are working on.

"We are thrilled to be working with Raven, Nerve and Activision on these exciting new titles," Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software said.  "Raven and Nerve are two of the most talented teams in the industry and we look forward to continuing our tradition of killer games with them on Quake IV and our new franchise."

What is also interesting is the new DOOM that was also shown at QuakeCon appears to have no connection to Activision or any other publisher.

QUAKE4 Announced

Aug 10, 2001 7:00pm CST tags: John Carmack, Activision, id Software, Quake 4
Havent been able to dig it up on the bizwire and strangely didnt get anything from Activision, but AMDZone has gotten a hold of the official PR for Quake4 announced by Activision to be developed by Raven Software using the new DOOM technology. Along with the PR is this single concept image.

Mesquite, TX - Aug. 10, 2001 - id Software, a leading independent developer of entertainment software, announced the development of two new games during a press conference Friday at QuakeCon. The company also offered attendees the first U.S. demo of the next DOOM game during a presentation by industry luminary and id Software co-founder, John Carmack. New titles announced at the press event include Quake IV, currently in development by long-time id Software contributor Raven Software, and an as-of-yet unnamed project in development by Nerve Software. Both games are executive produced by id Software and published by Activision, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI). "It's going to be a ton of fun to be working with the guys we know so well at Raven on Quake IV and the new team at Nerve is a real up-and-commer in the industry," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "With Return to Castle Wolfenstein, the new DOOM, our collaboration with Nerve, and Quake IV on the horizon, gamers have loads to look forward to."

Quake4 & Salt

Jul 10, 2001 1:34pm CST tags: John Carmack, Quake 4
Here's your rumor of the day... The upcoming announcement of "new id games" at QuakeCon has everyone fruiting out over what the heck it could be. The guys at CVG have posted word (Thanks Mike) from "reliable sources" that Quake4 is and has been in development for 6 months at another development house. Of course in the same report they say that Quake4 was ditched in favor of DOOM (which is wrong) so the grain of salt grows a little bit.

CVG has it on sound authority that the game has now been in development for at least six months under the guidance of a different team, although the identity of the third party is unknown at the present time. In addition, there is even talk of the game leading on Xbox: John Carmack has been part of the Xbox advisory commission in the States since the formation of the body.

Carmack has mentioned a few times that it's almost a certainty that DOOM technology (most likely the tech that would be used for an alleged Quake4) is easily ported to X-Box and would show up on the console. So that is no surprise...

New id Game Speculation

3DAP has a little article speculating on what's up with the id announcement a few days ago saying there would be new id games announced at QuakeCon. Pretty sure I narrowed it down for you guys well enough but here's some more.
