Meteos Wars and PowerUp Forever will be this week's new additions to the Xbox Live Arcade lineup, Microsoft has announced. Both games will sell for 800 Microsoft Points ($10), and both will be downloadable via the Xbox 360's Marketplace come Wednesday.

Meteos Wars, Left. Right, PowerUp Forever.

Continuing in the footsteps of the franchise's previous Nintendo DS and PC releases, Q Entertainment's Meteos Wars tasks players with matching up more blocks of the same color block, though those blocks can only be moved up and down, not left and right.

As for PowerUp Forever, the Blitz Arcade-developed, Namco Bandai-published shooter is a cross between Geometry Wars and Katamari Damacy, with players facing off against a constant wave of foes as their ship grows in size and the world shrinks.

Namco has yet to reveal when the PlayStation 3 version of PowerUp Forever will arrive, but don't be surprised it it arrives with the PlayStation Store update on Thursday.

Blitz Arcade has released some new images and video of its trippy shooter PowerUp Forever--which, with its ship-growing, world-shrinking mechanics, is now doomed to be relentlessly compared to Spore's cell stage.

PowerUp Forever will hit Xbox Live and PlayStation Network later this year.

New PowerUp Forever Screenshots

Oct 24, 2008 7:10pm CST tags: PowerUp Forever, Screenshots
Namco Bandai has released ten new screenshots from PowerUp Forever (360, PS3), its omni-directional shooter featuring a touch of fractal mathematics.

In a Super Stardust HD-meets-Katamari Damacy twist, the player's spaceship grows larger and larger as the player destroys more enemies, and so does the world surrounding that spaceship, creating one persistent level that gets bigger and bigger a la Katamari.

PowerUp Forever has missed its intended summer release but is still in the works. When completed, it will be a digital purchase on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Store.

Namco Announces Space Shooter PowerUp Forever

Namco Bandai yesterday announced a new downloadable game titled PowerUp Forever at its press event in San Francisco. The space shooter is set for a summer release on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

While I didn't get my hands on the Stardust HD-esque title, I did get to see an alpha version of it being played. From what I saw, I would judge it as one of the most promising titles within the Namco lineup.

Players will steer a fractal-based ship around a procedurally-generated level, firing away at various enemies. The visual style was very impressive, featuring whispy fluid dynamic-based shield effects that swished around the ship and the various enemies. Combat consists of shooting standard space shooter lasers and triple-shot guns using the right analog stick, with a full 360 degree field of fire. Nothing too exciting yet, but wait--there's more.

In a fantastic twist, as the player takes down parasitic monsters and bosses, the fractal ship grows in size. And while the ship may... Read more
