From the perspective of a game designer on PlanetSide, I have to admit that the prospect of full FF damage is pretty scary. There are so many issues that need to be worked out for such a system to be effectively utilized as a game play element. As a design team, weÂre looking forward to implementing an FF system that minimizes the negative aspects associated with friendly fire (i.e. grief players). But the challenge is ahead of us to try something different, on a scale never before seen, and that makes it exciting all at the same time. I hope that weÂre able to walk away, just like Rainbow Six, with a genre in FPS gaming, this time set against the backdrop of a massively multiplayer game.
New site features have been added, and current content updated. New to the site is a news page, fan site links, and a press coverage page. The updated content includes a revised FAQ and Producer's Letter. As the game develops, so will this official site. Keep checking back often for updates for both.
GS: What game types will be supported in PlanetSide? Co-op? Deathmatch? Capture the flag? How do all the game types come together?
KM: What ultimately ties everything together is the ongoing territorial war being conducted by the corporations. Under the "umbrella" of this struggle, there will be a multitude of gameplay variations. The most commonly recognized [variations] will be team versus team, capture and hold, and neutralizing enemy facilities. There will also be an expansive job system that issues assignments to players. The job system will encompass a number of jobs that cater to varying team sizes. And again, the binding clause is the persistent territorial struggle between the corporations.
