Old school monster-mashing first-person shooter series Painkiller is to receive a shot of adrenaline to the heart with Painkiller: Resurrection, reports IGN.

Players will be cast into a conflict between Heaven and Hell, ensuring once again we'll blast our way through demonic hordes with exotic weaponry, including the titular Painkiller of course, perhaps offering the opportunity to stick it to the good guys.

Painkiller: Resurrection brings a two-player cooperative campaign to the series, as well as multiplayer improvements and features aimed at the competitive gaming community.

Painkiller: Resurrection is developed not by series creators People Can Fly, nor Painkiller: Overdose developers Mindware Studios, but little-known Homegrown Studios, whose only release to date is Robert D. Anderson & The Legacy of Cthulhu.

Published by franchise owners JoWood Productions, Painkiller: Resurrection is due on PC later this year, with an Xbox 360 release being a possibility further down the line.
