PlayStation 3 Games Getting Motion Control Patch, Xbox 360 Games Probably Won't

With the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 both set to receive new motion-tracking controllers next year, it has been revealed that some existing PlayStation 3 software will be updated with enhanced control schemes via patches while Xbox 360 games probably won't.

Though Microsoft has demonstrated the Xbox 360's motion-sensitive Project Natal camera with retrofitted versions of existing titles, such as Burnout Paradise and Beautiful Katamari, project head Kudo Tsunoda told Destructoid that such efforts required a significant amount of code to be changed--presumably more than a patch could.

Meanwhile, rival Sony used Tokyo Game Show to reveal that some existing PlayStation 3 games will be patched to support the upcoming PlayStation Motion Controller, including LittleBigPlanet, PAIN, Flower, EyePet, Hustle Kings and High Velocity Bowling.

In addition, Sony unveiled several upcoming titles that will make use of the wand-shaped ball-tipped device, including an "Alternate Edition" of Resident Evil 5, Ape Escape, Echochrome 2, Motion Party, Sing and Draw, The Shoot and Tower... Read more

David Hasselhoff Goes Aerial in PAIN

Pain, Idol Minds' human catapult and injury simulator, is about to get a guest appearance from David Hasselhoff.

The PlayStation Blog found Mr. Hasselhoff rather enthusiastic about his adventure: "You can now put The Hoff into a launcher and fling me into harm's way--exploding crates, cars, people--everything is fair game," said the 56-year-old actor, speaking in the third person.

Hasselhoff will appear in Movie Studio, the upcoming expansion to the Garry's Mod-esque downloadable PlayStation 3 game, which will get violently catapulted into the PlayStation Store on November 6.

Pain Joins PlayStation Network Thursday

Nov 27, 2007 4:41pm CST tags: PopCap, PlayStation Store, PlayStation Network, Pain
Idol Minds' injury-laden Pain will arrive in the PlayStation 3's online store this Thursday, November 29. Associate producer Jason Coker revealed the news on the official PlayStation blog, though he did not mention a price for the downloadable title.

The basic premise of Pain has players launching their avatars with a slingshot in an attempt to earn the most points through physics-based injury and destruction. The concept is similar to PopCap's Peggle (PC), only with a human avatar instead of a bouncing ball and a robust 3D cityscape replacing the colored 2D tiles.

SCE San Diego's intensely anticipated High Velocity Bowling may also arrive in the PlayStation Store this Thursday. Earlier this month, senior producer P.J. Snavely previously claimed the motion-controlled title could hopefully arrive this week.
