NOLF Mega Demo

Mar 16, 2001 8:13am CST tags: No One Lives Forever, Demo
Well it's finally here. The No One Lives Forever "Mega Mix" demo. A lot of people got a sour taste of NOLF back when the tech demo came out never gave the game a fair shot. Once the full game came out though people were amazed. The game is damn good. Well for the doubters here is your chance. A full playable demo of the shipping code version of NOLF.

The Mega Mix demo includes 4 singleplayer levels plus 2 multiplayer maps. It was created utilizing the upgraded singleplayer and multiplayer code and is designed to give players a sense of the variety within the game

NOLF is easily one of the most fun single player FPS games I've ever played. Play it now! Thanks -Panther-

NOLF Map Pack 2

Mar 02, 2001 7:25pm CST tags: No One Lives Forever, Monolith
Monolith has released a new map pack for No One Lives Forever. The new pack includes 5 new UNITY vs H.A.R.M. assault maps. The patch is intended for the North American version. Make sure and check out the .plan update for more details. Also here are some shots of the pack Monolith gave us.

Update 2 is finally finished! The team has been working very hard on tracking down issues and addressing them, as well as adding some cool new features. We've also created 8 new multiplayer maps (these are described after the list of issues). Much thanks to everyone who helped test the Beta release! It's difficult to test every imaginable configuration possible with the Fox and Monolith test departments, so it is great to have extra feedback from the community!

Note, you need the v1.001 patch of NOLF to play this new pack, This patch will break your save games, but you can resume your game from the last mission completed point.

No NOLF Code

Feb 15, 2001 12:44pm CST tags: No One Lives Forever
There's an interview with the NOLFWorld webmaster on Gamespy, in which he mentions that Fox will not be releasing the source code for No One Lives Forever. This pretty much makes mod making impossible. Nice support for the game by Fox. update: According to Stomped, Fox has not made a decision on the release of the game code yet.

New NOLF Update

Feb 09, 2001 10:31pm CST tags: No One Lives Forever
The collective NOLF team .plan file has been updated again, with the news that a new version of the No One Lives Forever update has been released. You can grab it from the NOLF site downloads page. It's a 13.6mb download still, and this beta 2 improves:

-The Beta now works with both North American and International versions of NOLF across all five languages (English, German, French, Swedish and Spanish).
-Fixed some bugs that caused players to crash between multiplayer levels.
-Fixed client bugs caused by the dimensions of crouching players.
-Added a dedicated server option to limit bandwidth according to the type of connection being used (this was addressed previously but we had left it off the readme).

The NOLF team would appreciate it if you report any bugs that might be found.

NOLF BETA Patch

Feb 04, 2001 4:41pm CST tags: No One Lives Forever, Monolith, Beta
The No One Lives Forever website has a beta patch for the North American edition which features multiplayer fixes as noted in the collective NOLF team .plan update. The beta patch is a 10.6mb download. A few of the changes

- Improved object Interpolation/Extrapolation (helps remove players/rockets "jumping" around bugs)
- Added server upload throttling code. The server throttling works by turning down the update rates of the clients when too much data is being sent for the connection to handle.
- Optimized packets (so less bandwidth is used).
- Stand Alone Server: Added several command line paramaters to allow server operators to bypass the setup wizard.
- Fixed a bug that caused the level to never end if Frag Scoring was turned off in H.A.R.M. vs UNITY games.

If the Monolith site is slow, there are mirrors of the file at Blues News and 3D Gamers.

NOLF Bonus Pack Shots

Feb 02, 2001 4:15pm CST tags: No One Lives Forever, Monolith
Dan the man over at Monolith send us three screenshots showing three levels from the upcoming bonus pack Monolith is preparing for No One Lives Forever. NOLF really is by far Monolith's best effort so far in my, as well as Steve's opinion and from what I've been reading on the comments, a lot of people agree. Anyway, where the single player mode might've been great there weren't too many multiplayer levels included but Monolith should fix that with this pack. The multiplayer code should be updated as well. The release date? "Very soon".

A description of the screenshots from Dan Miller:

The cool thing about working with the No One Lives Forever DEdit is the variety of textures that came with the game. You can probably build almost any real-time location imaginable with the vast amount of textures available.

Unfortunately, the .jpeg format killed alot of detail, but if you look closely, you can see the flies in the lights in "STASI" (screenshot 1).
Also, you can go to the moon base in "Orbital Decay" (screenshot 2).
Kill your friends in "ClubDead" DM (screenshot 3).
