Fox Interactive Entering 21st Century?

Nov 09, 2007 2:41pm CST tags: Simpsons, Fox Interactive, Monolith
Rupert Murdoch wants desperately to be hip with the kids, and to increase profits for his News Corporation conglomerate in the process.

MCV is reporting that News Corp. subsidiary 20th Century Fox is looking to get back into the video game industry by relaunching its long-defunct Fox Interactive publishing division.

Formed in 1996, Fox Interactive typically published games based on Fox properties such as Die Hard Trilogy, Aliens Versus Predator, and The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Fox also dabbled in a few original titles, including Monolith's No One Lives Forever series, as well as Argonaut Software's Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. The label has been dormant since 2003.

The move is seen as part of a two-pronged approach to the lucrative gaming industry, with News Corporation's MySpace web portal having recently signed Oberon Media to provide titles for its MySpace Games service.

In the realm of video game journalism, News Corp. purchased IGN/GameSpy in 2005, which has since become a division of Fox Interactive Media--not to be confused with Fox Interactive, or Fox International, or Fox Intergalactic Domination.

F.E.A.R. Sequel Becomes Project Origin

Sep 06, 2007 9:07am CST tags: F.E.A.R., Monolith, Project Origin
Maybe giving power to the people isn't such a great idea; The results for the Name Your Fear contest naming Monolith's F.E.A.R. sequel are in, and the project is now officially known as the rather unimaginative Project Origin.

Due out on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Project Origin will follow the events of the original F.E.A.R. The game is not to be confused with Vivendi's planned F.E.A.R. sequel, which can not use the characters from Monolith's 2005 shooter.

"Project Origin is the name we can stand behind since it was picked by the gaming community, and this game marks a new beginning for the franchise," said Samantha Ryan of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "With the consoles and the PC, we're dedicated to add a new game dynamic to the universe and build upon what the players loved about the original game."

Condemned Film Guaranteed "Unforgettable"

Aug 16, 2007 2:25pm CST tags: Games: PC & Console, Monolith
New details have surfaced on the film inspired by Monolith's creepy-as-all-hell first person shooter Condemned: Criminal Origins (PC, X360).

Titled The Unforgettable, the movie, much like the game it is based on, will tell the tale of a grisly murder investigation. However, as the lead detective on the case is said to discover he's not human and stumble across warring extraterrestrial factions, it remains uncertain just how much more of the game's narrative will carry over.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project, at one point known as Species X, was written by The Shield veteran Kurt Sutter and will be helmed by Cell director Tarsem Singh. Monolith co-founder Jason Hall, who recently formed the HDFilms production company, will produce, alongside David Goyer and Basil Iwanyk.

There is no word yet on a possible film adaptation of the upcoming Condemned 2: Bloodshot (preview), though early reports suggest Monolith's PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 effort could revolutionize the sagging hobo-murdering musical market.

E3 07: Condemned 2: Bloodshot Preview

Jul 20, 2007 3:04pm CST tags: Games: Console, Monolith, E3, E3 07
Even when you're a huge sissy, sometimes the job has to get done. Chris Faylor peeks out from under the covers to sample Condemned 2: Bloodshot (PS3, X360), the sequel to Monolith's brutal action title. Take a look, if you dare!
Opting for a 2-on-1 drunken brawl in an alleyway filled with bottles of booze, producer Constantine Hantzopoulos soon faces two stumbling hobos, one of whom throws a prosthetic arm at him. He intercepts the object and sends it shooting back with a well-timed button press, knocking his opponent to the ground. As for the other hobo, Hantzopoulos grabs a nearby bottle of booze and throws it at the fellow, soaking him in flammable liquid, before pulling out a taser and setting him ablaze. Read more...
