Lost Odyssey Hands-on Impressions

Feb 01, 2008 2:37pm CST tags: Lost Odyssey
When I first saw Lost Odyssey last year, I wasn't exactly impressed by the turn-based Xbox 360-exclusive RPG. With its North American release fast approaching, I was able to put some time into an incomplete copy of the Mistwalker-designed, feelplus-developed title, but my thoughts are pretty much unchanged.
If I have two characters capable of performing actions, why can't one revive my downed character and the other heal him within the same turn? But inexplicably, after choosing to use a revival item on the unconscious party member, my other character can only heal herself and the other guy that's still alive.

Lost Odyssey Finds North America Feb. 12

Mistwalker and I.T. Programming's turn-based magical sci-fi RPG Lost Odyssey (X360) hits North America on February 12, publisher Microsoft announced today.

The amnesia-driven tale of protagonist Kaim details his exploits across the past 1,000 years, none of which he can remember at the game's outset.

Those who pre-order the game from participating retailers will receive a card with a download code for an additional mission and unlockable weapon. Said content will eventually be made available to the public, but the card is the only way to gain access to the downloadable goods on day one.

E3 07: Lost Odyssey Preview

As discussed in this week's ShackCast, I attended an E3 presentation for the Mistwalker-designed, I.T. Planning-developed RPG Lost Odyssey, which is headed to Xbox 360 later this year. I had been pretty excited about the game beforehand, but following my time with it, I couldn't help but note that the latest effort from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi felt a little familiar.
Lost Odyssey stars Kaim, an immortal who has lived for over 1000 years, and in true RPG fashion, can't remember any of it. As the game progresses, he'll recall more and more of his past exploits while dreaming. These repressed memories are presented in the form of short stories penned by Japanese novelist Kiyoshi Shigematsu, and once unlocked are available to read at any time under the "A Thousand Years of Dreams" menu option.
