No More PC LOTR

We've only heard about it once, but apparently Ritual Entertainment's Lord of the Rings game has been cancelled. Supposedly the game could not be finished in time for the release of The Two Towers movie later this year. EA would not respond to PC.IGN, where they broke the story. I can only say that I have heard similar things myself. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is still coming out on PS2 and GBA.

Ritual's Lord of the Rings

May 16, 2002 12:41pm CST tags: Lord of the Rings
The cat is out of the bag. As most people will know Ritual is currently working on Star Trek: Elite Force 2. Though many are looking forward what Ritual can bring to this license, many were wondering if that was the only project that Ritual was working on. Well, it's not as Ritual.com has been updated with the news that they are hiring artists for a Lord of the Rings game which they are working for EA. Ritual fan site Ritualistic has also opened forums to talk about the title. There is no additional information on the game, and from what I understand, only the Playstation 2 version of the game will be featured at E3 next week. More information will possible head our way in June however. However, the information we have from the Game Boy Advance and Playstation 2 versions indicate that it's likely a third person game featuring several playable characters from the movies.

LOTR Game Details

Feb 19, 2002 5:06pm CST tags: Electronic Arts, Lord of the Rings
Electronic Arts emailed us the first details on their first Lord of the Rings game. In the game, you will play Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas as you battle Orcs and other monsters from the movie. The action will also take place in the enviroments you saw in the movie. Using a "visceral, tactical combat system", players will be able to select characters, weapons and moves. Though no specific platform is currently announced, EA mentions several games will be released on "next generation systems". More details on this game will be released over the next few months, though EA did add a release date to their announcement: the game should be out when the second movie is released (currently scheduled for December 18).
