J.Simpson Leaves Raven

Aug 20, 2001 5:30pm CST tags: Jedi Knight 2
Jake Simpson sent out an email announcing his departure from Raven Software. Jake was last seen making a .plan update talking about progress on Jedi Knight II. Here's the entire note from Jake who is working on the SCREENSAVER OF DEATH right now:

Since I've already had some enquires via ICQ and via my home email about stuff bouncing from Raven, I thought I'd just send out a note to confirm that yes, I am no longer at Raven. The time had come to move on, so I'm doing that. It's a totally amicable split, it was just time to move on to new pastures. I don't have anything set in stone long term beyond finishing a screen saver I was working on, and playing with some GameBoy code, so if you want to get a hold of me, please contact me at jakesimpson100@yahoo.com

Jedi Outcast Preview

Aug 05, 2001 11:53am CST tags: LucasArts, Jedi Knight 2
Another weekend Gamespy preview. Today they have a Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast preview. LucasArts showed off the game last week. The preview starts out with the history of LucasArts games and a little introduction of the game before spilling the new info gathered at the press event. There are some bits about the new level they were showing off, the story, gameplay, force powers, lightsaber battles and more.

A compelling gameplay feature in Jedi Knight was the ability to "choose your path" so to speak during gameplay. For those of you who haven't played it, basically during the game you could either fight the good fight or go by way of the Dark Side. This gave Jedi Knight an almost RPG feel to it. Is Jedi Knight II going to incorporate the same thing? "We thought about it, but it's not going to be included in Jedi Outcast," continues Tosti, "however, throughout the game, your actions will have an immediate circumstances. For example, if you go through the game killing innocent people on sight, then some NPCs will be less than willing to help you. ...

Jedi Knight 2 Preview

Jul 28, 2001 9:45am CST tags: LucasArts, Jedi Knight 2
PC.IGN has posted a new preview of Raven's Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. The preview is based on a recent showing by LucasArts, and since it's been a few months since E3, it does contain new info about pretty much all aspects of the game. Here's a snip

One of the coolest effects in the game will be environmental lightsaber scoring. If you saw Episode I, you know exactly what I'm talking about. The opening scene of Episode I saw Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan cutting through a blast door with their lightsabers, melting through the thick metal like a hot knife through butter. This effect is being brought into Jedi Knight II, and while you won't be able to cut through all the levels on a whim, making your own path in the process, nearly every metallic surface can be scored with your lightsaber, with red-hot glowing metal surrounding the area where your lightsaber is plunged
