1100Mhz in December?

Oct 18, 1999 5:17pm CST tags: Intel
The Register is reporting that Intel will release a 1100Mhz "Willamette" processor *this* December (9 months early) to be sure and beat the newest AMD Athlons which are currently faster than anything Intel has to offer. These processors should be getting in consumer hands in January or February of 2000.

Word from HardwareCentral is that there are some P3-450's out on the market which may in fact be 600mhz CPUs sent out by Intel to test under our noses. Go grab one and clock it!

Coppermine Preview

Oct 13, 1999 2:55pm CST tags: Intel
The HardOCP guys have gotten their meathooks on a new Coppermine CPU from Intel, clocked at 700mhz (and overclocked to 800mhz) and they done run a bunch of benchmarks on the thing. But can it hang with a 700mhz Athlon?

CPU Wars

Oct 05, 1999 1:16pm CST tags: Intel
A couple of hardware articles for you guys today. Have a look at this MSNBC bit which talks about some of Intel's plans to reveal some of the CPU stuff soon (Which was mentioned yeseterday).

The design, Intel says, can scale past 800MHz in clock speed. It will, however, first be introduced at a top speed of 700MHz. Pentium III Coppermine chips will support a 133MHz system bus. The system bus is the pipeline between the processor and the rest of the components inside the PC.

Don't forget that AMD should be announcing some of their new stuff today.

Merced = Itanium

Oct 04, 1999 1:04pm CST tags: Intel
Intel renamed their upcoming 64-bit Merc processor to something that sounds a little more like Pentium, the Itanium. Thing should be coming out mid-2000 according to this Yahoo piece.

Intel's 2000 Roadmap

Sep 12, 1999 12:17am CST tags: Intel
Saw over at Stomped that Thresh and his Firing Squad of Love (make love not war dangit!) has posted a map to Intel's upcoming year - 2000. They make mention of Intel's pricing schemes, dropping the size of the die process (from 0.25 to 0.18) and how Intel's changing how you plug in a CPU to the motherboard yet again. They did forget to mention on path: "Wipe AMD off that map".
