One to freak you guys out for the day, The Intel folks already have a P4 3.6GHz chip up and running and actually let TomsHardware put one through benchmarks etc. The article claims the chip wont be out for 10 months tho, doh? Thanks -TKF-

Intel Price Cuts

Sep 03, 2002 12:39pm CST tags: Intel, Price Cut
CNet is reporting on the Intel price cuts which happened this past weekend after the introduction of the Pentium 4 2.8Ghz earlier last week. Some P4 CPUs got a hell of a lot cheaper, like the $400 2.4Ghz going for $193 now.

Intel 2.8Ghz Released

Aug 26, 2002 9:03am CST tags: Intel
Intel has released their fastest Pentium 4 to date today, the 2.8Ghz, just a week after AMD launched their fastest Athlon. Reviews are up at FiringSquad, VR Zone, VIA Hardware, Tweak Town, GamePC, Hardware-Unlimited, SimHQ, Gamers Depot, Hexus, Xbit Labs, Hardcore Ware, Aces Hardware, AnandTech, Hardware Analysis, Tech Report and HardOCP.

Intel Goes Nanotech

Aug 13, 2002 8:55am CST tags: Intel
CNet and HardOCP have articles on the newest development at Intel, strained silicon. This makes it possible to create chips made with a 90-nanometer manufacturing process. The first such chip, the "Prescott", will replace the current Pentium 4 in the second half of next year.

P4 3.0Ghz Coming This Year

Jul 22, 2002 9:11pm CST tags: Intel
Not happy with the speed lead they already have over AMD, Intel is speeding up the introduction of the Pentium 4 3.0Ghz CPU. The CPU should now be available by the end of the year, instead of some time in 2003.

New SiS Chipset

Jul 22, 2002 8:24am CST tags: Intel
Tech Report and Accelenation have taken a look at the newest SiS chipset, the 648, for the Pentium 4. It's actually not so bad.

Intel Roadmap Update

Jul 02, 2002 1:29pm CST tags: Intel
The Inquirer has some new Intel CPU release info, taken from the latest Intel roadmaps. Not a whole lot going on, but there it is mentioned that a 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 is now coming in the third quarter of this year. It was due in the fourth quarter at first. A 1.9Ghz Pentium4 Celeron is on its way too, and will cost about $138.

Intel Roadmap News

The Inquirer has once again obtained Intel roadmaps, showing CPU developments until the second quarter of next year. There's a roadmap for the Pentium 4 as well as the Celeron.

Intel Roadmap

Jun 10, 2002 12:53pm CST tags: Intel
The Inquirer as always managed to obtain the latest Intel roadmap which is showing several developments. DDR333 chipsets are coming earlier than expected, with an early second half 2002 not looking unlikely. A 3Ghz P4 still isn't on the roadmap, however 2.6Ghz and 2.66Ghz CPUs are on the way. When those get introduced, the price of the 2.53 and 2.5Ghz will be cut to less than $433.

Intel Takes the Lead

May 06, 2002 8:45am CST tags: Intel
Well it's finally happened, the battle between Intel and AMD for the speed crown has been won for the moment. Intel today unveiled the 2.53GHz P4 chip running at an insane 533mhz bus speed on the new i850E chipset, with no word from AMD. Tech-Report sums it up well:

There's no reason to mince words about this one. Intel has clearly and unambiguously taken the performance lead away from AMD now. The faster front-side bus speeds are helpful, as is the clock speed boost to 2.53GHz. Combined, the Pentium 4 has enough extra performance to beat out the Athlon XP 2100+ in all but a few of our tests.
