Splinter Cell Conviction and Red Steel 2 Delayed Amongst Other Ubisoft Games

The growing pains of Splinter Cell: Conviction continue, as Ubisoft has once again postponed the oft-delayed stealth-action game alongside several other titles.

Both Splinter Cell: Conviction (PC, Xbox 360) and Red Steel 2 (Wii) have been bumped out of 2009, and are now expected to release between January 1 and March 31, 2010. Conviction was originally due in Q4 2007, with at least four delays now under its belt.

Also delayed were the new Ghost Recon and I Am Alive. Once due between January and March 2010, both are now expected between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011.

"We are disappointed that we have to postpone the release of several major games but we consider that this choice is the best one in the long-term interests of Ubisoft," CEO Yves Guillemot explained in a statement.

I Am Alive Gets New Developer

Independent developer Darkworks and publisher Ubisoft have revealed that they are no longer collaborating on the upcoming first-person survival game I Am Alive.

The project is now in the hands of Ubisoft Shanghai, which was aiding in development.

Originally slated to arrive this year, I Am Alive was recently delayed and may not make it out until early 2010. According to an Ubisoft statement posted by Darkworks:

In order to respect the new launch date for this ambitious title, and Darkworks having other obligations, we have mutually decided to complete development of I Am Alive at Ubisoft Shanghai, as the two studios have collaborated on aspects of the title over the past year.

The team at Darkworks has respected its contractual obligations on the project and will be a part of the success of the game when it launches.

While it's rather unusual for a game to switch developers midway through its life, the practice isn't unheard of. Namco recently pulled Splatterhouse away from independent developer BottleRocket with a U-Haul truck, though the game is still due this year.

Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell Due in Next Year; Ubisoft Delays I Am Alive

Ubisoft today revealed that Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction and a new Ghost Recon game, among others, will be released across its next fiscal year, which spans April 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010.

Though the company only yesterday said that Darkworks' first-person survival game I Am Alive would arrive in March, the game has been delayed, with Ubisoft noting that it "will require further development time and will now bolster the line-up for 2009-10."

Overall, 2009-10 will see Ubisoft deliver 7 titles in existing game franchises, launch 3 new brands (including I Am Alive), release 4 license-based tie-ins (including James Cameron's Avatar and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and provide additional entries in the Petz, Imagine, My Coach and PlayZone casual game series.

The first person survival game I Am Alive will be released this March, publisher Ubisoft announced today.

The Darkworks-developed game was announced at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, but there hasn't been much, if any news about the title since.

Ubisoft did recently clear up that Assassin's Creed producer Jade Raymond is not attached to the project in any way, after earlier reports seemed to indicate that she was.

I Am Alive will be released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Also due out in March: Tom Clancy's HAWX (PC, PS3, X360), the PC version of Tom Clancy's EndWar, and the Wii-exclusive Tenchu: Shadow Assassins.

I Am Alive Announced, Billed as 'Edgy New Survival-Adventure,' First Trailer Hits

I Am Alive, the next title from celebrated Assassin's Creed producer Jade Raymond, was formally announced at an Ubisoft press event today.

Described as an "edgy new survival-adventure," the title is due out on current generation systems--likely PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360--next spring. No developer was named in today's announcement, though it had previously been rumored that Cold Fear veterans Darkworks were handling the game.

"When Chicago is left in ruins and the cause of the devastation is unknown, players will be challenged to think, react and take risks that will directly affect themselves and those around them," wrote publisher Ubisoft. Shackvideo users can use the HD Stream.
