Diamond Multimedia Q&A

New on HomeLAN Fed today is this Q&A with RJ Theodore, the new general manager of Diamond Multimedia which is being revived as a videocard manufacturer among other things. JCal asks about their plans to release both ATI and NVidia powered cards, plans to support older products, software bundles, and a couple of other things.

Because Kyle's our buddy and this includes free hardware, HardOCP is doing another workshop at QuakeCon this year which generally features a few newfangled pieces of hardware getting shown off and some pretty good insight into what the future of PC hardware looks like. The guys at TopTechTips let us know that Creative has released new Audigy drivers and applications. Supposedly there's improved stability, EAX performance is enhanced and performance is improved for HyperThreading enabled machines.

IBM's MRAM

CNN's Technology section is reporting about a new memory type that IBM and Infineon Technologies AG have been working on called MRAM (magnetic random access memory technology). This new RAM, which could replace most of the previous types of RAM, should also be able to give us instant booting computers which would be pretty neat.

AMD, Intel Price Cuts

CNET has a story up with info on recent AMD and Intel CPU price cuts. AMD cut prices for XP and mobile XP chips, while Intel lowered prices for its Celeron processors.

New Detonator Releases

NVidia has released new Detonator drivers for the videocards powered by their chipsets. There's a Windows XP/2K driver and one for Win9x/ME. NVidia boasts that the new driver has "The industry's best Microsoft DirectX 9 support". Thanks Blues News.

DirectX 9.0a Released

Several people let us know that Microsoft has released a new version of DirectX 9, now at 9.0a. According to Microsoft, "This release also resolves an issue with DirectX 9.0 where some multiplayer games or MSN Messenger may not work correctly. A number of minor bugs were also resolved.". Update: not sure what happened to the download link.

CPU Price Cuts

This MSNBC article mentions that there's been a new round of CPU price cuts. Intel slashes Pentium 4 prices by some 21% while AMD cut prices up to 32%. Don't expect to find the P4 3.06 and 2.8ghz all that much cheaper though, they were only cut by 6% and 8%.

It features all that newfangled DX9 stuff and is really pretty. You can grab it up over at Fileshack of course and here are a few screenshots of it just because:

3DMark03 Next Week

3DMark03 by the folks at Futuremark is just about ready to be released, it's gonna be all purty and test out DX9 capabilities and everyone will be measuring their 'e-penis' (Thanks Lowtax) together!
