Half-Life Cheating Q&A

As you might know, Valve has recently started testing new builds of Half-Life and Counter-Strike. Besides testing their Steam system, they are also implementing some new anti-cheat measures. Erik Johnson was kind enough to answer a few questions about Valve's effort to stop cheating. You can check out the Q&A right here.

Natural Selection Interview

HomeLAN's Saturday morning interview is with Charles Cleveland of the Natural Selection mod for Half-Life. Natural Selection is a mix between an FPS and a RTS, and features a sci-fi setting. Day of Defeat 2 Preview

If you're a regular Half-Life player you might just be aware of the Day of Defeat mod. With its World War 2 setting it was popular long before the likes of Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. For the past few months the team has been slaving away at version 2.0 of their team mod. I recently got the opportunity to play the new version and have written up a preview which will tell you about the new features that you can expect. Screenshots and movies of the new levels are included, as well as a brief Q&A with one of the programmers.

New HL Weapons Factory

Saw on Blues that a new version of the Half-Life version of the Weapons Factory mod has been released. They call it the "most advanced version of HLWF yet", with support for fog rendering, trains, tanks and monsters, as well as a menu system for team and class selection and you can play single- as well as multiplayer modes.

The official Day of Defeat site has posted a FGD file, for those interested in creating a map for the upcoming version 2.0 of this Half-Life WW2 mod. This new version should be out in a few weeks so you have a while to submit a map.

HL Mod Expo Report

Gamehelper has put together a nice little feature about the recent Half-Life mod expo, which showcased several promising mods for Valve's blockbuster FPS. There's a photo gallery, fact sheets on the mods on display there and a writeup about the event.

HL TV Network

The CPL site has an announcement from Speakeasy and Valve announcing that they have a PC Game Broadcast Network up and running to support 80,000 simultaneous viewers of a Half-Life game. Using the Half-Life TV server software, and Speakeasy's bandwidth everyone should be able to spectate during the games at the CPL World Championship event.

HL Mod Expo Announced (Again)
