Monster Hunter Unite, Gran Turismo PSP Getting Online Multiplayer via PlayStation 3's adhocParty

Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 3's "adhocParty" functionality will debut in North America later this month, allowing those that own both a PlayStation 3 and PSP to play portable games like Gran Turismo PSP and Monster Hunter Freedom online.

Supporting only certain titles, the adhocParty service essentially transforms the PlayStation 3 into an online access point, which then enables the ad hoc multiplayer of compatible PSP games to be played across the internet instead of locally.

Sony is billing adhocParty as a "new social gaming service," with Capcom North America and Europe's COO Mark Beaumont noting that "at last, Monster Hunter fans will be able to adventure together, regardless of where they are in North America."

For those uninterested in the upcoming PSP Go, Sony will soon be bundling the older PSP-3000 with Polyphony's upcoming Gran Turismo PSP for a limited time.

The bundle will cost $200, be released on October 20, and include the following:

  • Mystic Silver PSP-3000
  • Gran Turismo PSP game on UMD
  • PlayStation Network voucher for exclusive white Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
  • 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo
  • PlayStation Network downloadable movie voucher -- title TBD
  • Sony Music Pass voucher good for 10 downloadable songs -- U.S. residents only
The lighter, download-only PSP Go will debut on October 1 for $250. Gran Turismo PSP is hitting the same day for $40--meaning that those potential buyers that don't mind a 20 day wait for old technology will save around $90 on the Limited Edition bundle.
