The demo starts off with Helios, God of the Sun, flying his flaming chariot around the head of a massive titan. After the introduction, I took control of Kratos to find a city in turmoil, full of fleeing citizens and marauding monsters.
By default, Kratos still uses the chain blades with deadly proficiency, but I also used a couple of his alternate weapons. There's a bow for ranged attacks... Read more

With a survey--pictured below--open to PlayStation Network members, Sony seeks to gauge interest in a dazzling array of trinkets and baubles, both physical and digital.
Alongside your usual t-shirts, soundtracks and "making of" features, it suggests God of War I and II on Blu-ray--interesting as not all PlayStation 3 models offer PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility, though the re-releases could be re-coded for the PS3.
We'll see what players pick when God of War 3 hits the PlayStation 3 before April 2010.
The PlayStation 3 sequel is slated to arrive no later than the end of March 2010.

At one point a giant cyclops lept down to face Kratos, leading the player to jump on top of the beast in a series of timed button presses. What followed... Read moreNow, though, Sony has clarified that statement. In a press release issued today, the company said that its numerous "groundbreaking exclusives," including MAG and God of War III, will arrive within the fiscal year, which doesn't conclude until March 2010.
In other words, God of War III and MAG may not arrive until March 31, 2010, at the very latest, which is when Sony's next fiscal year ends. Furthermore, God of War III and MAG were the only listed games that didn't have a firm 2009 release before last week.
It's also worth noting that all past God of War console games have launched in March, at least in North America, with international releases coming a few weeks or months later.
As for the rest the "groundbreaking exclusives" listed in today's release, Killzone 2, inFamous, MLB 09: The Show, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves made the cut, all of which have been previously confirmed for 2009. And while Sony made no mention of Heavy Rain today, the publisher has previously listed it as a late 2009 release.
Before today, neither game had been given a firm release window. MAG is a 256-player online shooter, in which players assemble into groups of 8 to duke it out in a persistent world. God of War III, meanwhile, is the latest entry in the beloved beat 'em up series.
"[Killzone 2] ushers in an unprecedented year of titles to hit the PlayStation platform throughout the year including the blockbuster exclusives Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, inFamous, MAG, Heavy Rain, God of War III and MLB 09 The Show," states the release.
And yes, that's all in-engine. For more on God of War 3, check out the latest deatils.

Additional details:
According to the company, developer SCE Santa Monica has "made significant strides in giving players the realistic feel of actually being on the battlegrounds." The game is powered by a new engine said to quadruple texture resolution over God of War II (PS2).
"I guarantee that God of War will give fans what they have been eagerly waiting for, and much more," boasted game director Stig Asmussen. "We have large shoes to fill following the success of the previously released God of War titles."

Shackvideo users can use the HD Stream. The tidbit was tucked away in a press release for the next RoboCop film, to be directed by Darren Aronofsky and written by David Self. Under Self's name, MGM noted that he "wrote 'God of War' for Universal, to which Brett Ratner is attached to direct."
Rumors had previously circulated of Ratner's involvement with the God of War film. Self's past writing work include the Road to Perdition screenplay and Thirteen Days.
Little is known about the project, which is believed to follow game series protagonist Kratos as he seeks revenge against the Greek deities that betrayed his trust.
Thus far, three God of War games--two numbered entries on the PS2 and a PSP prequel--have been released, with Sony recently revealing the first media from God of War 3, which will eventually arrive on PlayStation 3.
After SCEA CEO Jack Tretton announced the game, a trailer was shown, highlighting battle-torn cities and protagonist Kratos promising that "in the end, there will be chaos."
As for a release date, Tretton only noted that God of War III would not arrive this holiday season. Shackvideo users can use the HD Stream.
Protagonist Kratos was listed among other PlayStation brand characters, such as Resistance's Nathan Hale as Metal Gear Solid's Solid Snake, that will be highlighted during today's festivities.
While Metal Gear Solid 4 arrived on PlayStation 3 last month, a new Resistance title is due out this fall. The last God of War game hit PSP earlier this year, with a tease that God of War PS3 was "coming soon."
"This is the most stressful event you can ever imagine," Tretton commented.
Update: Sony has now unveiled God of War 3.
According to a translation of the report, Sony revealed at this week's Interactive and Digital Entertainment Festival in Paris that the first God of War III details and trailer will arrive "as early as next July." E3 2008 is scheduled for July 15 through 17.
The last official mention of the latest entry in Sony's deity-slaughtering action series accompanied the release of Ready at Dawn's God of War: Chains of Olympus, with an ad describing a PS3 edition of the series as "coming soon."
