When Bionic Commando and Terminator Salvation game developer GRIN closed earlier this month, the studio lamented that it had an "unreleased masterpiece that we weren't allowed to finish"--a title that now appears to have been a new Final Fantasy entry.

Various LinkedIn listings uncovered by superannuation indicate that GRIN was working with Final Fantasy owner Square Enix on a project codenamed "Fortress," with one ex-staffer noting his work at GRIN on an "unannounced Final Fantasy project."

Destructoid adds, via sources, that the project was an action game set in the Final Fantasy XII universe, and that Square owed GRIN "upwards of a few million dollars." In addition, former GRIN artist Tomislav Spajic posted some "Fortress" environments (above), which certainly bear a resemblance to some FF12 areas.

New Terminator Game Ties Into Upcoming Film

Warner Bros. today officially announced Terminator Salvation - The Videogame, based on the Christian Bale-starring Terminator Salvation flick that hits May 22, 2009.

Crafted by Bionic Commando and Wanted: Weapons of Fate developer GRIN, the game is billed as "an action-packed, third-person shooter" with game-exclusive enemies, and will arrive "in conjunction" with the movie.

Apart from a mention of "next generation consoles," platforms for the game were not provided. A previous report pegged it for "next-generation consoles, PC and mobile."

"The player will be led through a visceral story with extremely polished production values to create a fully interactive Terminator experience," noted Cos Lazouras, president of Terminator license holder Halcyon Games.

The game will sport "an incredibly fluid and realistic control set," Lazouras added.

Upon its release, Terminator Salvation - The Videogame will be published by Equity Games, co-published by Evolved Games and distributed by Warner Bros.

The Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group has announced that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will be publishing a game based on "Wanted", the recently released comic inspired action movie starring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy.

Featuring a storyline set after the conclusion of the movie, The Wanted game is a third person one and will feature such moves as "curving bullets" and "Assassin Time". Universal also promises a "an innovative, multi-layered cover mechanic".

Development of the game, scheduled for release late this year on PC and console systems, is being handled by GRIN. The Sweden based company is also working on the upcoming Bionic Commando reimagining; previous projects include the PC editions of the Tom Clancy: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter games, and the post-apocalyptic action-racer Bandits: Phoenix Rising.
