On the surface, Fight Night Round 4 doesn't seem strikingly different than its predecessor. Both games feature sweaty fighter models glistening under the bright lights of the boxing ring while trading punches in impressive displays of athleticism and brutality.

Fight Night Round 4 Release Date Announced, Trailer Slams FNR3 as 'Very Scripted, Very Repetitive'

Apr 13, 2009 12:55pm CST tags: Fight Night Round 4, Trailer
Electronic Arts reveals a June 30 ship date for EA Canada's Fight Night Round 4 (PS3, X360) in this new trailer, which hypes the sequel by punching Round 3 right in the face. Several new screenshots were also released, detailing more of the game's roster.

"[In Fight Night Round 3], you often found that the gameplay degraded into two guys standing in front of each other and trading blows," says producer Brian Hayes. "You saw a very scripted, very repetitive experience where people stood in front of each other."

But the physics of Round 4 alleviate that issue, he explains in the video below. "What we're really trying to deliver is the most realistic simulation of the sport of boxing ever in a video game....Fight Night Round 4, you see a much more fluid, natural game."

Fight Night Round 4 Video Touts Punchy Physics

Sometimes shooters are measured by the satisfying recoil of a rifle, or the sound of a particular explosion. With boxing games, it's all in the speed of the punches. Something like a butterfly, sting like a bee, as they say.

Alright, I don't know anything about boxing, but hopefully the champs at EA Canada do. The studio's Fight Night Round 4 is hitting up PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this summer.
