Following the recent confirmation of Warren Spector's long-rumored Wii platformer Epic Mickey, publisher Disney today unleashed a torrent of media and details.

Disney described the "edgy and unexpected cartoon adventure" as "an adventure-platforming game with light role-playing elements," explaining that "players use the Wii Remote to wield magical paint and thinner to re-shape the world around them."

Spector, known for his contributions to fan-favorite first-person shooter series Deus Ex, noted that "the core of this game is the idea of choice and consequence, and how that defines both the character and the player." Development is being handled by Junction Point, which Spector created in 2005 and then sold to Disney in 2007.

The long-rumored, Mickey Mouse-themed project from Deus Ex dev Warren Spector's Junction Point Studios has been confirmed as a Wii-exclusive single player game.

Thanks to an upcoming GameInformer cover story (seen above), we now also know the title is targeted for a fall 2010 release.

However, plot and gameplay details have yet to be nailed down. Rumors from July indicated the game's storyline will follow "very old and/or forgotten Disney characters who are out to get their revenge on Mickey."

That rumor also noted that players will be "[painting their] way through levels using the Wii Remote," a detail seemingly corroborated by the paintbrush in the above image.

Following the leak of concept art from Deus Ex developer Warren Spector's purported Disney-themed game in development at Junction Point--a project referred to as "Epic Mickey"--new rumors have surfaced regarding the title's gameplay.

An anonymous source tells CVG that the game is in fact a Wii exclusive. The plot apparently involves "very old and/or forgotten Disney characters who are out to get their revenge on Mickey," a concept corroborated by the leaked art, which features the classic Disney character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

The Epic gameplay supposedly involves "[painting] your way through levels using the Wii Remote" by "drawing, etching and erasing whole or parts of levels as you go."

Disney has so far been tight-lipped on details of the game, saying only that it is "very encouraged" by Junction Point's work.

Warren Spector's rumored Disney-meets-steampunk project "Epic Mickey" is rumor no more, as confirmation and art have emerged by way of online resumes and portfolios.

Some of the Seven Dwarfs lead a beach assault as zombie Goofy looks on.

Coming from the Disney-owned Junction Point Studios, Epic Mickey is being developed for the Wii, going by the resume of current Junction artist Tony Pulham. The resume has since been updated to remove the reference, with "undisclosed title" replacing Pulham's previous mention of "Epic Mickey (Wii Video Game)."

Little else is known of the project--rumors suggest it's a platformer--with Spector having previously cautioned that upon its revelation, fans would vilify the Deus Ex and System Shock veteran, accuse him of selling out, and act "like the world... Read more
