Q3Test Demo Recording

Jul 24, 1999 1:31am CST tags: Q3Test, zGeneral News, Demo
Something I figured out over the past couple of days is that Q3Test demos are in fact not broken, however the multi-binding system to quickly record demos doesnt work. You now have to record demos like this:

g_syncronousclients 1
record mycooldemo
g_syncronousclients 0
stoprecord <to stop demo>

Mortyr Demo Downloadable

Jul 22, 1999 6:17am CST tags: Mortyr, Demo
Well, that was interesting. I think the downloading experience was best summed up by jazzbone "it's official...there's a game company on earth with less bandwith than id software! congrats, id! you're outta the cellar!", and props go to ryan for finding out that Avault has this demo finally downloadable and to Paul for the one on Mortyr.net. Once again I've ran through and taken some bandwidth friendly (almost all under 30KB) screenshots to give an idea what you might be downloading.

[shot 1] [shot 2] [shot 3] [shot 4] [shot 5] [shot 6] [shot 7] [shot 8] [shot 9] [shot 10] [shot 11] [shot 12] [shot 13] [shot 14] [shot 15] [shot 16]

Can't say that this game impressed me much, if at all. Guess I'm just not much of a key hunter (shot 16). Also the guys at DamageGaming had a chat with the Mortyr PM which may be of interest.

Mortyr demo tonight

Jul 21, 1999 10:57am CST tags: Games: PC, Demo
Mortyr.net is reporting that the Mortyr demo "should" be ready for a worldwide release sometime this evening. These guys still don't have a publishing deal yet...but this demo could stir up some interest. Here's the stuff from Mirage:

I'm sure everyone knows Mortyr and all the rumors about the publisher, content of the game (symbols, violence). After few weeks of silence, when we were waiting the future publisher of the game, we decided to publish Internet demo. During this time we have changed many things (you can check the list at www.mortyr.com.pl/press/)like new levels, new graphic features, increased speed etc. You can see new look of Mortyr in our demo which will be available at 0.00 GMT on following sites:

www.mortyr.net
www.mirage.com.pl
www.mortyr.com.pl

This demo can be found only on Internet. No magazine will have permission to covermount it. Later in couple days we will publish another demo, bigger and containing more features, with permission to put it on cover CDs.

In about 2 weeks Polish version of Mortyr will be ready to sell. We still don't know the release date for Europe and US.

Unreal server and demos

Jul 21, 1999 10:51am CST tags: Games: PC, Demo
Cached e-mailed Tim Sweeney with a couple of  questions about the Unreal/UT server console and making demos (both on and off the Net) with Tim's replies posted.

Question 1: Do you guys plan on fixing the problem with the Server.  I run  a server but I also like to play a lot.    When ever I join a game on a server that is also the computer that i'm going to play on, everything becomes unstable.  I can't play.  I don't want to keep running two servers.  In Quake 2,  I can play on the Server that is also on my machine w/o any stability problems, I just have a real nice ping.  Can you fix this problem?

Answer: The only way to get adequate performance in Unreal with both a client and a server running on a single-processor machine is to start a non-dedicated server.-Tim

btw, that would be in-game recorded demos, not like the downloadable and playable type demo ;)

Q3Test v1.07 & Demo Recording

Jul 20, 1999 4:47am CST tags: Q3Test, id Software, Quake 3 Arena, Demo
Several people on the Quake3 messageboard noticed that with the new cheat protection stuff that id Software put in the latest 1.06 test that they goofed and overlooked demo recording. I sent in a trusty bug report to Graeme and got word back from John Cash that we can count on 1.07 to have demo recording capabilities. Thought that shack demos section was gonna be in jeapordy!

Q3 cheats 1 and timedemo

Jul 18, 1999 12:17am CST tags: Q3Test, Games: PC, Demo
Here's some stuff that you guys might want to muck around with now that the new Q3Test is out- to enable cheats (thanks gibbles:)

Start a map in the console using:
devmap q3test1
devmap q3test2
devmap q3tourney

To get all weapons and the grappling hook simply hit F4. For god mode, hit F10.

And to get some "true" benchmark numbers, here's the timedemo feature (thanks Moto-Chow)

  • Pull down the console
  • Type timedemo 1
  • Type demo q3testdemo1.dm3 or demo q3testdemo2.dm3

Mortyr.net reports that the demo has been pushed a tad to early next week, but should be out before Wednesday unless something really big shows up. It will still be out long before the game is out.

Homeworld Demo

Nov 30, -0001 12:00am CST tags: Games: PC, Demo
The demo for Homeworld has been released. As with all game demos now days they made it extra friendly for modem users. Only 62 megs! It's a that "new breed" of RTS style game in a true 3D world. Hopefully it doesnt stink. Anyone who grabs it post a comment for the rest of us?
