Dead Rising 2 Screenshots, Multiplayer Details Arrive

Sep 25, 2009 7:59am CST tags: Dead Rising 2, Screenshots, Tokyo Game Show 2009
New Dead Rising 2 screenshots show a selection of the wild and wonderful weapons hero Chuck will use to beat a path through the zombie hordes of Fortune City, from lowly knives, chairs and stuffed marlins to the fearsome paddle-saw and wheelchair tank.

The monster-mashing sequel will also pack "A series of multiplayer challenges for up to four players via online play," including "jumping into giant hamster balls and mowing down the undead; seeing who can place the most drill buckets on zombies' heads," "taking to the arena on a motorbike with chainsaws for handlebars" and deadly metal antler mayhem. Players can also "fight dirty" and interfere with others' scoring.

Developed by Blue Castle Games "in close collaboration with Capcom" and "a number of members from the original Dead Rising team... working alongside," Dead Rising 2 is slated for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 some time before March 31, 2010.

With this year's Tokyo Game Show about to kick off, Capcom has unleashed a lone "pre-TGS" screenshot of Dead Rising 2.

"Is that [protagonist] Chuck Greene under there? It's difficult to tell," the company teased.

Under development by Blue Castle (The Bigs) and packing some sort of multiplayer, the zombie-slaying sequel is due out on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 before March 30, 2010.

Dead Rising 2 Screenshots Too Visceral To View

Jun 02, 2009 7:43pm CST tags: Dead Rising 2, Screenshots, E3 2009
After declaring war on E3 fun by staying away because of swine flu concerns, Capcom continues to scupper our mirth by censoring the latest Dead Rising 2 screenshots.

Given some of the graphic images the publisher has been willing to show before, there must be something pretty gruesome hiding behind that sticky tape.

Blue Castle Games' Dead Rising 2 is set to arrive before March 31 2010 on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Dead Rising 2 protagonist Chuck Greene appears to possess the same level of weapon-fashioning ingenuity as the original game's Frank West in these new screenshots for the upcoming Vegas-themed horror title.

He also apparently uses the heads of woodland creatures to intimidate his dead enemies in battle. Yes, this is still a Capcom game.

Dead Rising 2 is due out prior to April 2010 on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Dead Rising 2 Has Multiplayer, After All

Apr 28, 2009 10:49am CST tags: Dead Rising 2
The confusion regarding possible multiplayer in Dead Rising 2 has been laid to rest, as Capcom has confirmed that Blue Castle's upcoming sequel has online multiplayer.

"Rest assured we are going to put multiplayer in the game," Capcom development head Keiji Inafune said during a recent press event, as reported by Eurogamer. "I can't go into specifics about what type of multiplayer as that directly relates to some of the game systems that we don't want to talk about at this event. It will be online multiplayer."

Inafune added that "single-player alone is not going to cut it," noting "we're at a point in game history that you need to have some form of multiplayer component in a game."

Coming to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Dead Rising 2 is currently without an exact release date, though it's due by the time Capcom's fiscal year ends on March 31, 2010.

The below trailer for Capcom and Blue Castle's zombie-killing sequel isn't supposed to be available until later today, but that didn't stop InsideGamer from posting it early. The footage starts off a bit pedestrian, but once the moose head shows up, all bets are off.

While Capcom has yet to say exactly when Dead Rising 2 will hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the company has stated that it should be on shelves by March 31, 2010.

Dead Rising 2 Multiplayer Now Unconfirmed

Mar 30, 2009 1:23pm CST tags: Dead Rising 2, GDC 09
Update: Laura Scholl meant to say "multiplatform," not "multiplayer," while discussing the middleware behind Dead Rising 2, a mental images rep told Joystiq.

As for Capcom, the publisher told the site that it has "not announced much about the game at this point" when asked about possible multiplayer support in the sequel.

Original: While boasting at GDC that Dead Rising 2 is capable of displaying at least 6,000 characters on-screen in multiplayer, mental images product manager Laura Scholl inadvertently confirmed that the sequel packs multiplayer support, reports IGN.

That's a first for the series, as the 2006 Xbox 360-exclusive original only... Read more

Dead Rising 2 Announced for PC, Consoles

Feb 09, 2009 10:47am CST tags: Dead Rising 2, Screenshots, Blue Castle Games, Capcom, Trailer
Following constant teases and a viral video on Friday, Capcom today confirmed that The Bigs veteran Blue Castle is developing Dead Rising 2 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Following the original Xbox 360-only Dead Rising, which hit in 2006, the sequel will be set in the Las Vegas-inspired "gambling paradise of Fortune City." Capcom noted that the zombie virus is now "spreading unchecked throughout the United States."

The new setting is said to provide tens of thousands of zombies and a host of new weapons for open-world zombie-killing, such as a human-sized hamster ball. The original, which took place in a shopping mall, allowed players to combat zombies with mannequins, umbrellas, bowling balls, chainsaws, guns, lawn mowers... Read more

Dead Rising 2 Teased in Viral Video?

Feb 06, 2009 2:42pm CST tags: Dead Rising 2
A new video that just hit Youtube appears to be teasing a sequel to Capcom's Dawn of the Dead-styled horror game Dead Rising (X360).

Capcom's plans for a sequel to the strong-selling Dead Rising were made a bit more clear last month when Mega Man creator Keiji Ifanue supposedly confirmed the game to Famitsu. Capcom UK later suggested that the key quote was mistranslated.

If legitimate, the video would appear to confirm that Dead Rising 2 will be set in Las Vegas, and will still include zombies. If legitimate. Check out the evidence below:

Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2 Seemingly Confirmed; Capcom Suggests 'Mistranslation'

Jan 28, 2009 9:53am CST tags: Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2, Capcom
Capcom development head and Mega Man character designer Keiji Inafune has apparently confirmed that sequels to both Dead Rising and Lost Planet are on the way.

"We're finally putting out new Dead Rising and Lost Planet games," said Inafune in an interview with Famitsu, as translated by Kotaku. "As a main principle we're thinking about multi-platform, and expanding upon both slightly from the Xbox 360 version."

While a new Dead Rising entry has been rumored for quite some time, it's possible that Inafune was merely referring to the forthcoming Wii release of the zombie-killing franchise. However, a Lost Planet sequel was previously unknown.

When reached for comment, Capcom UK told CVG that "at the moment we have made no official announcement regarding a [Dead Rising] sequel...as the source is [Japanese magazine Famitsu], I can only suggest that it was a mistranslation."

Capcom is currently prepping a big budget movie based off the icy shooting antics of Lost Planet, and has previously stated that gamers "haven't seen the last of Dead Rising," which was exclusive to Xbox 360. The publisher recently vowed that it's done with platform exclusives and hinted at the Dead Rising franchise hitting PS3.

Report: Dead Rising 2 in Development at Blue Castle

Nov 07, 2008 1:56pm CST tags: Dead Rising, Capcom, Blue Castle Games, Dead Rising 2, Rumor
Vancouver-based Blue Castle Games is the developer of a Dead Rising sequel for publisher Capcom, according to a report today.

Eurogamer cites an anonymous source inside Blue Castle who is reportedly working on the zombie-killing action game. "Everyone's really excited; the team has obviously seen the rumors and it's been hard to keep quiet, but they can't wait to show off the game," said the source.

The original Dead Rising released in 2006 to critical and commercial success on the Xbox 360. A Wii version is in the works, and Capcom has teased that players "haven't seen the last of Dead Rising" on Sony's official PlayStation forums, signaling that the game could be headed for the PlayStation 3 as well.

Blue Castle, founded in 2005, is best known for the arcade-y baseball game The Bigs (360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP).

Capcom has not commented on the matter, but partnering with a Western company on a multi-platform game does fit the publisher's stated strategy very well.

More Dead Rising on the Way, Teases Capcom

Aug 11, 2008 10:37am CST tags: Dead Rising, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, Capcom, Dead Rising 2
As Capcom readies the Wii edition of its zombie-slaying action title Dead Rising (360), the publisher has begun hinting that more Dead Rising titles are on the way, including a possible PlayStation 3 release.

"You haven't seen the last of Dead Rising," Capcom's John Diamonon wrote in the comments section of the official PlayStation blog, responding to a fan's complaint that the original Dead Rising only arrived on Xbox 360.

Left, Dead Rising on Xbox 360. Right, Dead Rising on Wii.

Released in 2006, Dead Rising put players in the role of photojournalist Frank West as he attempted to survive 72 hours in a zombie-infested mall, with the option of rescuing numerous survivors. Rumors of a multi-platform sequel have long circulated, though until now, there has been little evidence to indicate another effort is in development.
