The Shugashack.com Counter-Strike server is back online after a nice long break. I havent tweaked the map rotation or anything like that just yet but you can get to the server by just connecting to shugashack.com:27015.

ShackES has an editorial on the simple question of why is Counter-Strike taking over the competitive (CPL) scene lately? Cant say I agree much with the reasoning myself.

ShackES has word on the fabled Counter-Strike strafe jumping tactic. Apparently it is real, there are some directions on how to do it and it more difficult than it sounds.

Gamespy has posted a Counter-Strike strategy guide for all the newbie CS players out there (although who knows if the more experienced player can learn a thing a two from it too). Be warned, it's thirty-six pages.

Cliffe has updated the Counter-Strike website with a little update on what they and Valve are working on since there are several bugs/exploits in the 1.0 CS release.

For the people wondering if we were gonna see a patch for the 1.0 release of Counter-Strike this year, the answer is no.

And next year means January, not December 2001 (someone was getting angry on the CS forums so I figure I'd mention that).

There is an interview with Gooseman of the Counter-Strike on the Armchair Empire, where they ask him about. There's some questions about Counter-Strike (no way!) but also some on how Canadians are taking over the gaming industry, why people make mods and a couple of other things.

Big news for all the Counter-Strike players, an update yesterday afternoon at Counter-Strike.net has word that an official map pack will be released online. Here's the direct word:

we're going to hopefully be putting out a map-pack for those of you who don't have all the CS maps. A few had to be left out due to complications in the retail process. We'll update with more info as soon as we finalize the pack.

Thats the cue to badger me with requests for the Shack CS server to come back online. I'll take another crack at it soon, not sure what busted and we all know how easy to use Linux is.

The big Counter-Strike v1.0 release is scheduled for tonight, and to celebrate Gamers.com has a big old preview doing the hand-on exclusive type of deal.

You've seen the screenshots, but how to they hold up in a fight? We have the low-down on the Five-seveN handgun, the UMP45 submachine gun, and the Sig SG 550 sniper rifle.

Word from DomainofGames is that the first ever high-stakes ($15,000) Counter-Strike tournament being held by CPL will open for sign-ups this Tuesday. I really wonder if it will turn into a completely painful camp-fest when cash is on the line.
