In case you havent heard already, the new v6.6 Counter-Strike client and server have been released. You can grab it from the Counter-Strike website. Thankfully they fixed the lag cheating hack that so many snipers were using. Here is the list of stuff:

- New command added: "Timeleft"
- Fixed stalled connection bug
- New sniper crosshair
- Fixes "laggy rifle firing"
- Fixes many cheats
- Updated cs_estate

There's a beta 6.6 patch on the Counter-Strike site, for public testing. This beta patch fixes some of the more annoying problems, including the removal of several cheats. Thanks Anthony Riech. Also, a news update to the site mentions that it's been a year already since the first Counter-Strike was released to public. There's a looking back article using screenshots to show how much has changed, as well another recap article looking back at what all happened in the past year.

The site for the highly popular Half-Life mod Counter-Strike has been updated with news that the team is looking into the connection problems people are having, and they hope to include a fix in beta 6.6. There is also a fix for a "blocky HUD sprites" bug for GeForce owners and word on a problem with ATI cards.

New Counter-Strike Server DLLs

For all the server admins out there running Counter-Strike servers, cliffe has posted a Win32 and Linux test 6.5b DLL to fix some of the problems introduced with the new version. Thanks prower.

This will *really* fix the vodoo models being used still. Also fixes the "glock on crack" bug.

There is more trouble shooting on the Counter-Strike site frontpage. Also, Voodoo Extreme has posted a fix for people who are having problems with the authentication in Half-Life

- Using Notepad, open the woncomm.lst file under /valve/ in your Half-Life folder.
- Under "Auth", switch the two authentication servers (bottom one to the top and vice versa).
- Save the file and start up Half-Life, going about as usual.

The official Counter-Strike site has been updated with another screenshot, from a new map cs_estate, which will be included with the 6.5 beta. But, as we all know by now, no HL patch = no 6.5.

The Counter-Strike homepage was updated, with news that the next release wont be beta7, but rather 6.5 which will use Valve's new netcode. Gooseman has also released a zip file with the first person weapon models that will help in converting models to 6.5.

Teamplay First has posted a response from Counter-Strike's cliffe on when we can see Counter-Strike in a Half-Life patch. According to him, its probably still a few months away while they work on b7 and newer releases before that. Also the download will probably be optional.
