FPS Command & Conquer: Tiberium Revealed

Dec 12, 2007 3:33am CST tags: Electronic Arts, Command & Conquer: Tiberium
Electronic Arts is taking another stab at the FPS market with Command & Conquer. The cover story on the upcoming January issue of Game Informer magazine has word of Command & Conquer: Tiberium, likely in development by EA Los Angeles based on past evidence. You play as Ricardo Vega, a GDI field commander dragged out of retirement to stop the latest Nod master plan. Here are a few of the details:
  • Will ship on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360
  • Set 11 years after the third Tiberium war
  • Squad-based action
  • Squads are called R.A.I.D. (Rapid Assault and Intercept Deployment)
  • Known squad types are infantry, missile infantry, Titan and Orca
  • Missions are around the "Mediterranean Red Zone"
  • Special powers such as "Orbital Slug" are available

Command & Conquer previously took to the first-person perspective with franchise creator Westwood Studios' Command & Conquer: Renegade, released for PC in 2002 to mixed reception.

New Command & Conquer FPS On The Way?

Sep 20, 2007 8:22pm CST tags: Electronic Arts, Command & Conquer: Tiberium
In a job posting on the EA Jobs website (thanks GameSpot), Electronic Arts notes that it is looking for a sound designer to join the team of a "next-generation first person shooter game." Nothing unique about that, except the summary refers to the project as "C&CX," possibly indicating that EA is taking another stab at bringing Westwood Studios' popular sci-fi strategy game franchise Command & Conquer to the shooter genre.

The game would mark the second shooter spinoff in the Command & Conquer universe, with the first being 2002's Command & Conquer: Renegade, which was met with lukewarm reception. The details in the post give no indication if the title will be a sequel to Renegade or a new spinoff, describing the project as "a high profile new intellectual property."

The next release in the Command & Conquer series will be the Tiberium Wars expansion pack Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath, retailing next year. For some old-school Command & Conquer action, download the full game of Westwood's Command & Conquer Gold on FileShack.
