Castle Crashers 'Necromatic' DLC Coming Wednesday

A new DLC pack for The Behemoth's Castle Crashers will be released on Wednesday, the team announced today.

The "Necromatic Pack" will add two new characters to the title's roster: the Necromancer and the Cult Minion.

Also set for inclusion is a new animal orb, the Dragonhead, and two new weapons: "NG Skull Mace and yes, ...the damn Chainsaw."

The content will cost 160 Microsoft Points.

Another batch of downloadable content will soon arrive for the Xbox 360 edition of The Behemoth's downloadable side-scrolling brawler, the company has confirmed.

Included in the "Necromantic Pack" will be two new characters (The Necromancer and The Cult Minion), the Dragonhead Animal Orb, and the new NG Skull Mace and Chainsaw weapons--all of which are pictured left.

"No word yet on the release date or price, and once again, this is completely up to Microsoft. But I can leave you with a tantalizing.. SOON," Kelly Revak, the so-called Mayor of Behemothtown, wrote on the studio's official blog. The company is also working on a PlayStation 3 edition of Castle Crashers and a new title referred to as "Game 3."

After a period of Xbox 360-exclusivity, Castle Crashers, The Behemoth's stylish downloadable take on the cooperative beat-em-up genre, is headed to the PlayStation 3.
The four-player title has been smoothly carried over to the Sony system, according to GameSpot, with support for trophies and various other tweaks in the works.

Behemoth is being quiet on the topic of exclusive content, and also has yet to name a release date for the port.

Castle Crashers DLC Arrives This Week

In commemoration of what appears to be downlodable content Tuesday, Microsoft has announced that this week's Xbox Live Arcade release will be Castle Crashers DLC.

Coming in at 160 Microsoft Points ($2), the Castle Crashers: King Pack adds two new playable characters, a party-healing spell, three new weapons, and a seal animal orb named Pelter to The Behemoth's Xbox 360-only downloadable beat'em up.

The Castle Crashers: King Pack will be available this Wednesday, January 14.

Microsoft also confirmed that the next Xbox Live Arcade game to debut will be Twisted Pixel's The Maw, which hits next Wednesday, January 21, at 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

Castle Crashers Patch Still Coming, Says Developer

Castle Crashers developer The Behemoth has reassured fans that a patch for the Xbox Live Arcade title is on the way, hoping to allay concerns over the game's still-buggy Xbox Live co-op component.
"We're working with Microsoft to get the title update out as quickly as we can," said a Behemoth spokesperson to Xbox360Fanboy. "Sadly, we can't get into details about the certification process, but we've resolved the game's issues with data loss and networking in addition to other bugs."

Added The Behemoth: "We can't really comment on the release yet as we're not allowed to talk about it because of Microsoft, but the update's release is definitely reaching the end of the process."

Reminder: Castle Crashers Hits XBLA Wednesday

As previously reported, Microsoft today affirmed that The Behemoth's hand-drawn beat 'em up Castle Crashers will appear on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday.

Sporting local and online multiplayer for up to four players, the long-in-development downlodable Xbox 360 game will sell for 1200 Microsoft Points, or $15.

In all, the old-school brawler packs over 20 playable characters and 40 weapons, including some references to The Behemoth's previous XBLA release, Alien Hominid.

The Behemoth's downloadable beat 'em up Castle Crashers will sell for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) when it hits Xbox 360 on August 27, the developer confirmed today.

"The price for Castle Crashers will be 1,200 Microsoft points," artist Dan Paladin revealed on the studio's official blog. "Domo arigato Mr. Roboto."

The long-in-development hand-drawn Xbox Live Arcade game had previously been listed for $22.50, or 1800 Microsoft Points, though both The Behemoth and publisher Microsoft quickly clarified that the price point had not been finalized at that time.

Braid Priced at $15 Despite Microsoft Denial

Though publisher Microsoft had previously denied a $15 price for Braid, the company confirmed today that Jonathan Blow and Number None's time-shifting puzzler will indeed cost 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) when it is released as a downloadable Xbox 360 title through the Xbox Live Marketplace this Wednesday.

In last week's statement, Microsoft also denied that The Behemoth's downloadable four-player beat'em up Castle Crashers would sell for 1800 Microsoft Points ($22.50) when it arrives on August 27.

Since then, The Behemoth has issued its own response, claiming that the companies "are still working together to figure out a reasonable price point. (not 1800 points)" but that "ultimately, pricing is at the discretion of the distributor (Microsoft)."

Update: Microsoft has informed Shacknews that the reported $22.50 price point for Castle Crashers and $15 Braid price, believed to stem from a now-removed Microsoft Japan listing, are incorrect for both domestic and international markets.

The company further noted that it will officially announce price points for those titles on the Monday preceding Braid and Castle Crashers' respective release dates, or August 4 and 25.

Castle Crashers and Bionic Commando RA Dated; Braid, Galaga Legions Also Due in August

Several anticipated Xbox Live Arcade titles will be hitting the Xbox 360's downloadable gaming service this coming August, Microsoft announced today.

While Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 and Bionic Commando: Rearmed were both previously announced to carry the price of 800 Microsoft Points ($10), no price points for the other titles have been revealed.

Geometry Wars 2 Release Moved Up, Due Next Wed; Castle Crashers, Bionic Commando RA Hit Soon

Bizarre Creations' multi-directional shooter sequel Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 is now slated to hit Xbox 360 next Wednesday, July 30, the studio has announced.

Revealed last week, the downloadable Xbox Live Arcade exclusive was initially scheduled to debut on August 6, and will carry the price of 800 Microsoft Points ($10). For more on the game, check out our hands-on preview from the E3 show floor.

While Microsoft has yet to detail specific dates for upcoming Xbox Live Arcade releases, the company has informed Shacknews that Castle Crashers, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Galaga Legions and Jonathan Blow's time-shifting platformer Braid are all slated to arrive by September 21.

Castle Crashers Finished, In Certification Process

The Behemoth's cooperative XBLA beat-'em-up Castle Crashers has completed production and is currently awaiting certification, lead artist Dan Paladin revealed on the company's blog.

The hack-and-slash action title, which has been been in development since 2006, now moves to Microsoft's standard Xbox Live Arcade certification and final testing process before its Xbox 360 release.

The unpredictably time-consuming certification process precluded the developer from announcing a firm release date, but with core development essentially completed, Castle Crashers' summer release window seems very likely.
