Resident Evil has joined other big names in the iTunes App Store with Resident Evil: Degeneration, a $6.99 iPhone / iPod Touch game based upon the animated feature.

Capcom's Degeneration sees RE2 stars Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield reunited in the aftermath of yet another T-virus outbreak to shoot zombies and waggle iPhones.

The 9.5MB third-person shooter--downloadable over Edge and 3G--promises excitement with an "in-game PDA to collect intel, manage inventory and access maps."

Surprising no one, developer Capcom today confirmed that the oft-rumored PC version of Resident Evil 5 will arrive "later in the year," with the PC editions of Street Fighter IV and Bionic Commando due in July. All three will be sold via retail and digital distribution.

"All three games will be optimized for the PC platform and will have new PC-specific features added to the already great games," wrote Capcom. Both Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 earlier this year, with the console edition of GRIN's swinging action game Bionic Commando slated to hit on May 19.

Details on the "new PC-specific features" for each game follow below... Read more

Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth Hits DS This Winter

Apr 28, 2009 3:04pm CST tags: Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, Screenshots, Capcom, Trailer
The fifth entry in Capcom's beloved Ace Attorney adventure series is coming to North America and Europe in Nintendo DS form this winter, the publisher announced today.

Instead of Phoenix Wright or Apollo Justice, this entry centers on the recurring Miles Edgeworth character. And whereas previous games had players examining portraits of crime scenes in first-person, this one lets players walk around in third-person.

Another change is that most of the game takes place in crime scenes, not... Read more

Shed a Tear for the Cancelled Devil May Cry PSP

Apr 15, 2009 4:54pm CST tags: Devil May Cry PSP, Capcom
The PSP version of Devil May Cry has reportedly been cancelled, IGN has noticed.

Japanese video game magazine and reliable source Famitsu has removed the PSP title from its upcoming release list with a special note that it has been cancelled.

Capcom announced the PSP installment of Devil May Cry series way back in 2005, intended for release some time before March 2006. No details were announced and as nothing has been heard since, its cancellation comes perhaps as no surprise.

Mega Man 2 Arrives on iPhone

Mar 26, 2009 7:57pm CST tags: Mega Man 2, Capcom, iPhone, Screenshots
Continuing a week of surprise revelations for iPhone and iPod Touch users, Capcom today released an iPhone version of its infuriating NES classic Mega Man II. It's priced at $5 and weighs in at 13.2 MB, meaning you won't be able to download it via 3G or Edge.

Capcom points out that the gameplay has been rebalanced for iPhone, which is undoubtedly for the best, as a touch screen-controlled port of platformer that demands absolute precision problably isn't the best idea, especially given the amount of broken gamepads that Mega Man II has left in the wake of its multiple incarnations... Devil May Cry Series Ships Ten Million Copies

Mar 18, 2009 11:11am CST tags: Devil May Cry 4, Devil May Cry, Software Sales, Capcom
First, it was Street Fighter 4 shipping more than two million copies. Then, Resident Evil 5 shipped four million. Now publisher and developer Capcom is touting Devil May Cry figures, revealing that the stylish action series has shipped ten million copies.

Left, Devil May Cry on PS2. Right, Devil May Cry 4.

The franchise premiered on PlayStation 2 in 2001, and later made its way to PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. In fact, the latest entry, Devil May Cry 4 (PC, PS3, 360), set a new record for the series by shipping some 2.2 million copies worldwide.

Series creator Hideki Kamiya left Capcom in early 2007, well before the release of Devil May Cry 4, and joined up with many other former Capcom all-stars at what later became Platinum Games. He's currently producing Bayonetta, a PS3 and Xbox 360 action game that looks similar to Devil May Cry, but stars a gal with guns in her shoes.

New Resident Evil Game Heads to Wii

Mar 11, 2009 12:10pm CST tags: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Capcom, Cavia
Following through on Capcom's promise that Wii-owning Resident Evil fans would "be very happy very soon," word of a new Wii-bound Resident Evil game, dubbed Darkside Chronicles, has emerged from the pages of Japanese game magazine Famitsu.

A light-gun shooter similar to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (Wii), Darkside Chronicles will again revisit past Resident Evil games in on-rails shooter form. As with Umbrella Chronciles, development will be shared between Capcom and Cavia.

This time around, players will experience the zombie-laden events of Resident Evil 2 and other as-yet-unknown entries. Past teases suggest that the events of Resident Evil: Code Veronica will be featured in the game, which does not yet have a release date.

It's not called Umbrella Chronicles 2 because Umbrella is no longer the main enemy, according to an IGN translation of the report. Furthermore, the game is said to be more accessible than Umbrella Chronicles, and will focus more on replayability.

Expect more details on the title when it's officially announced by Capcom tomorrow.

Capcom Teasing New Game Announcements, Suggests Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake

Mar 09, 2009 11:00am CST tags: Capcom
Ever the tease, Capcom is back at it again, this time promising that there will be "new game announcements" at the Resident Evil 5 Launch Party on Thursday night.

Now, here's where things get interesting. The company recently promised Joystiq that fans of Resident Evil and the Wii "will be very happy very soon," even though Resident Evil 5--which hits Friday, March 13--"was made for the Xbox 360 and PS3."

The same fellow that made that promise, product manager Matt Dahlgren, then further teased GameFocus. He informed the site that something on March 12--the same day as the Resident Evil 5 Launch Party--would make a fan of Resident Evil: Code Veronica "very pleased," and added that it's not a PSN or XBLA remake.

Of course, that's not a guarantee that Resident Evil: Code Veronica, which brought the series' mix of zombie-killing and survival horror to the Dreamcast in 2000, is Wii-bound. But with multiple announcements and the promise of Wii happiness, it makes you think.

Capcom: Digital Distribution More Important than Retail Channels

Mar 04, 2009 1:42pm CST tags: Digital Distribution, Capcom
Capcom vice president of strategic planning Christian Svensson has said that PC digital distribution is now more important to the company than retail sales.

"No question in my mind. Digital distribution on PC ties directly into our strategy," said Svensson in response to Rock Paper Shotgun's question of whether digital channels were now taking precedence over retail at the company.

"We will probably do as much digital selling as retail in the current climate," added Svensson, who noted that Capcom is currently one of the leaders in console digital distribution as well.

Svensson also explained that, much like Valve, Capcom is taking a global view on the PC in order to maximize its distribution.

"We have brands that are very appealing, but the platform of choice in many countries is not a current-gen console," he said. "The PC is global, and it's ubiquitous. And quite frankly, the more people who shy away from that platform, the bigger the opportunity."

Capcom Teases New Xbox 360 Game

Feb 19, 2009 12:02pm CST tags: Capcom, Xbox Live Arcade, XBLA
Resident Evil and Street Fighter publisher Capcom will unveil its next Xbox 360 game come Monday, February 23.

At that time, the announcement trailer for the as-yet-unknown game will be available through the Xbox 360's online Xbox Live Marketplace.

The company has offered no clues or teases as to what the new game may be, with the official Capcom Unity blog merely questioning, "What could it be about?" It was not specified if the game will be an Xbox 360 exclusive or appear on other platforms, though the Capcom's history certainly suggests that a PlayStation 3 release is likely.

Dead Rising 2 Announced for PC, Consoles

Feb 09, 2009 10:47am CST tags: Dead Rising 2, Screenshots, Blue Castle Games, Capcom, Trailer
Following constant teases and a viral video on Friday, Capcom today confirmed that The Bigs veteran Blue Castle is developing Dead Rising 2 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Following the original Xbox 360-only Dead Rising, which hit in 2006, the sequel will be set in the Las Vegas-inspired "gambling paradise of Fortune City." Capcom noted that the zombie virus is now "spreading unchecked throughout the United States."

The new setting is said to provide tens of thousands of zombies and a host of new weapons for open-world zombie-killing, such as a human-sized hamster ball. The original, which took place in a shopping mall, allowed players to combat zombies with mannequins, umbrellas, bowling balls, chainsaws, guns, lawn mowers... Read more

Capcom, Guildhall Join PC Gaming Alliance Board

Feb 03, 2009 9:46am CST tags: PCGA, Capcom, The Guildhall
The ranks of the PC Gaming Alliance's board of directors grew by two today, as it announced the addition of representatives from Capcom and The Guildhall .

Based in Japan, Capcom is best known as the developer and publisher behind the Street Fighter, Resident Evil and Mega Man series, among others. Meanwhile, The Guildhall, located at Southern Methodist University, teaches game-making.

The PC Gaming Alliance, its stated goal to "drive worldwide growth of PC gaming," noted that the move broadens its knowledge of the "PC gaming issues and requirements" faced by publishers and educational communities.

"Capcom believes strongly in the value and strength of the PC gaming market as a global platform for our entertainment brands," said Capcom VP Christian Svensson, adding that Capcom's past PCGA participation "has greatly improved our understanding of the market....and allowed us to participate in improving the field of PC gaming."

"We're pleased to have a representative on the board in order to directly help shape the future of the PC gaming environment," concluded Svensson.

Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2 Seemingly Confirmed; Capcom Suggests 'Mistranslation'

Jan 28, 2009 9:53am CST tags: Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2, Capcom
Capcom development head and Mega Man character designer Keiji Inafune has apparently confirmed that sequels to both Dead Rising and Lost Planet are on the way.

"We're finally putting out new Dead Rising and Lost Planet games," said Inafune in an interview with Famitsu, as translated by Kotaku. "As a main principle we're thinking about multi-platform, and expanding upon both slightly from the Xbox 360 version."

While a new Dead Rising entry has been rumored for quite some time, it's possible that Inafune was merely referring to the forthcoming Wii release of the zombie-killing franchise. However, a Lost Planet sequel was previously unknown.

When reached for comment, Capcom UK told CVG that "at the moment we have made no official announcement regarding a [Dead Rising] sequel...as the source is [Japanese magazine Famitsu], I can only suggest that it was a mistranslation."

Capcom is currently prepping a big budget movie based off the icy shooting antics of Lost Planet, and has previously stated that gamers "haven't seen the last of Dead Rising," which was exclusive to Xbox 360. The publisher recently vowed that it's done with platform exclusives and hinted at the Dead Rising franchise hitting PS3.

Capcom, MMO Developer Partner on Secret Project

Jan 21, 2009 12:17pm CST tags: Capcom, Monumental Games, MMO
Capcom today announced that it will publish an unannounced multi-platform title from massively multiplayer online game developer Monumental Games later this year.

And... that's all the details that Capcom provided. It was a very short press release. However, Monumnetal's website offers the following tease of its first console game:

We can't reveal the franchise as yet, but we can say we're both proud and excited to be working on it. As you would expect given our core technology, there's a substantial online element, but the gameplay focus is pure adrenalin.

Monumental has released one game thus far, the free-to-play PC soccer MMO Football Superstars, with a hunting MMO, Hunter's World, early in development. The company recently bought half of 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand developer Swordfish Studios.

Capcom Reviving PlayStation, PSP Classics in 2009

Dec 30, 2008 1:28pm CST tags: PlayStation Store, Capcom
Publisher Capcom plans to re-release a number of its older PlayStation and PSP games through the online PlayStation Store in 2009, the company has revealed.

"You can expect to see a whole slew of downloadable PSP and PSone titles from our vault next year," Capcom digital marketing head John Diamonon wrote on the official PlayStation.Blog. No specific titles were mentioned.

Capcom games for the original PlayStation include the first 3 Resident Evil titles, two Breath of Fire entries, several Street Fighter and Darkstalkers games, as well as Mega Man Legends, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne and Mega Man X3-6.

On the PSP side of things, Capcom's notable releases for the portable include two arcade compilations, Monster Hunter Portable, Power Stone Collection, Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins, Street Fighter Alpha 3, plus enhanced remakes of Mega Man 1 and X.

Both the PlayStation 3 and PSP can play original PlayStation games that have been downloaded, but PSP games are only playable on the portable hardware itself.

Street Fighter SackBoys Invading LittleBigPlanet?

The "little" PlayStation 3 surprise Capcom recently teased looks to be downloadable Street Fighter-themed outfits for Media Molecule's PS3 platformer LittleBigPlanet.

The above images recently surfaced on Spanish PlayStation fansite PSN!, but were quickly removed at the request of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Fortunately, Ripten and 1UP were able to archive the pictures before their removal.

If legitimate, and it certainly appears so given the SCEE-mandated removal, Street Fighter's LittleBigPlanet appearance mark the latest set of game-referencing outfits. Other promised costumes include Final Fantasy 7's Sephiroth and Metal Gear Solid 4's Old Snake, with a Resistance 2 Chimera costume recently added... Read more

Capcom Wins Dead Rising Trademark Lawsuit

Nov 19, 2008 1:48pm CST tags: Dead Rising, Capcom, Legal, Lawsuit
Capcom has won a lawsuit over film production company MKR Group, who alleged that Capcom stole from MKR's Dawn of the Dead (1978) to make Dead Rising (360), the well-received zombie-massacre action game.

United States Magistrate Judge Richard Seeborg granted Capcom's motion seeking relief from a lawsuit after MKR threatened to sue. "The few similarities MKR has alleged are driven by the wholly unprotectable concept of humans battling zombies in a mall during a zombie outbreak," claimed Capcom in the motion.

Capcom's legal victory was not a pretty one. "Dozens of zombie movies and games" introduced in court by Capcom--intended to establish the... Read more

Capcom Gets Custom Storefront on PlayStation Store

Nov 11, 2008 2:40pm CST tags: PlayStation Store, Capcom
Popular Japanese publisher Capcom is set to get a little more attention from PlayStation Store shoppers, as the company is the first to get its own full-time storefront on Sony's digital marketplace.

Capcom's storefront, left, is modeled after promotional ones like Siren: Blood Curse, right

"As you may know, Capcom has been a huge supporter of PlayStation Network, so we collaborated on a special storefront to coincide with the release of Age of Booty," wrote Sony's Ro Hernandez on the official PlayStation Blog.

In the future, other publishers will follow suit, though it's unknown exactly which publishers have their own storefronts in the works.

Capcom's digital specialty shop will open with this Thursday's iteration of the weekly PlayStation Store update, which indeed brings with it the PS3 release of Certain Affinity's pirate-y strategy game Age of Booty.

Report: Dead Rising 2 in Development at Blue Castle

Nov 07, 2008 1:56pm CST tags: Dead Rising, Capcom, Blue Castle Games, Dead Rising 2, Rumor
Vancouver-based Blue Castle Games is the developer of a Dead Rising sequel for publisher Capcom, according to a report today.

Eurogamer cites an anonymous source inside Blue Castle who is reportedly working on the zombie-killing action game. "Everyone's really excited; the team has obviously seen the rumors and it's been hard to keep quiet, but they can't wait to show off the game," said the source.

The original Dead Rising released in 2006 to critical and commercial success on the Xbox 360. A Wii version is in the works, and Capcom has teased that players "haven't seen the last of Dead Rising" on Sony's official PlayStation forums, signaling that the game could be headed for the PlayStation 3 as well.

Blue Castle, founded in 2005, is best known for the arcade-y baseball game The Bigs (360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP).

Capcom has not commented on the matter, but partnering with a Western company on a multi-platform game does fit the publisher's stated strategy very well.
