Apr 28, 2008 9:40am CST tags: Bionic Commando Rearmed, Bionic Commando, Virtual Console
Representatives from Capcom have revealed that the swinging NES shooter Bionic Commando will not be released through the Wii's online Virtual Console service, owing the exclusion to unspecified problems with Nintendo.

"[The original Bionic Commando on Virtual Console] couldn't happen," Capcom producer Ben Judd recently told IGN.

"This is NOT, repeat NOT, a Capcom issue," Capcom business development VP Christian Svensson later clarified on that company's official forum. "Please remember, Nintendo calls the shots on what goes up on VC, not third parties."

An enhanced and digitally distributed remake of the first Bionic Commando, titled Bionic Commando Rearmed and developed by GRIN, is due to be released... Read more

More environment renders than anything else, only two of these Bionic Commando screenshots have any shooting or swinging going on. Normally that'd be disappointing, but this game isn't looking too bad.

Developed by GRIN, Bionic Commando--not to be confused with Bionic Commando Rearmed, the 2D remake of the original title--will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Stockholm-headquartered developer GRIN will open a new studio in Gothenburg, Sweden, the developer announced today. The studio will open its doors on January 8, and GRIN will be hiring through the winter months to fully staff the new development house.

"The new studio is working on a very, very big Hollywood sci-fi brand," GRIN CEO Bo Andersson told Next-Gen, saying the project would arrive on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. "It's a real triple-A thing."

GRIN's other project is the reimagining of Capcom's Bionic Commando (PC, PS3, X360), arriving at an unannounced date. Its previous works include the PC versions of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter series. Capcom Unveils Redesigned Bionic Commando

Oct 15, 2007 7:44pm CST tags: Capcom, Ubisoft, Bionic Commando
A current-gen update to Capcom's 1988 grappling-hook sidescroller Bionic Commando will be coming to PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, Capcom has announced. No estimated release date has been given to the project.

Like the original title, players will use a grappling hook to traverse levels designed for vertical ascent. The new title will be in 3D, of course, and the grappling hook has been updated to feature more practical uses--like dispatching foes and heaving vehicles across the city.

Swedish developer GRIN, responsible for the PC versions of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter series, will head up the development of the title. Hopefully, GRIN will as skillfully implement the grappling hook as Capcom did in its third-person shooter Lost Planet: Extreme Condition.
