Report: Bionic Commando Dev GRIN In Trouble

Aug 10, 2009 7:34pm CST tags: Bionic Commando
Swedish developer GRIN, most notably responsible for the recent Bionic Commando games, could be on its way to closing altogether according to a new Gamasutra report.

The company has already closed its studios in Barcelona and Gothenburg, and un-smiling employees have recently been told not to show up to work at its Stockholm headquarters.

GRIN saw a period of rapid expansion in recent years, culminating in the release of Bionic Commando, Wanted: Weapons of Fate and Terminator Salvation in the last five months.

Sales of the titles have generally been lower than expected, with the recent Bionic Commando selling just 27,000 units in its first month in US stores.

Two Very Different Bionic Commando Trailers

May 14, 2009 12:20pm CST tags: Bionic Commando, Trailer
A pair of new Bionic Commando trailers from publisher Capcom show two starkly disparate approaches to marketing GRIN's free-swinging third-person shooter.

First we follow on from the Bionic Middle Manager and Bionic Fireman trailers with a new menial job, a cussin' old dear, wailing metal vocals and one very cheesy grin.

If that seems far too silly for you, the second trailer continues the Lab Report series in a very prim and proper manner, showing gameplay cut into smooth CG with... Read more

Bionic Commando Release Dated for Consoles

Mar 25, 2009 10:35am CST tags: Bionic Commando
GRIN's Bionic Commando will be swinging its way to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 19, publisher Capcom announced today.

This 3D update to the popular 8-bit 2D platformer--itself recently remade as the downloadable Bionic Commando Rearmed for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3--features swinging through vast open levels on your bionic arm's grappling hook and punching dudes with said bionic arm. Bionic Commando also brings mulitplayer to the series.

Bionic Commando tells the story of Nathan Spencer, a seasoned government operative betrayed and falsely imprisoned. But when terrorists detonate an "experimental device" over Ascension City, who do the government turn to save the day but poor old Nathan Spencer? Probably because of his gigantic metal grappling hook arm.

Bionic Commando will be released on PC "shortly after" the console versions, with Capcom promising further details in the upcoming months.

Bionic Commando Swings Into May

GRIN's new Bionic Commando game will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 this May, publisher Capcom has announced. The game was previously expected in March.

Bionic Commando PC Coming After Console Release

Jan 05, 2009 9:38am CST tags: Bionic Commando
The PC edition of GRIN's Bionic Commando will "shortly" follow the release of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, according to publisher Capcom.

"[Bionic Commando] will be initially available for gamers on Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment's PLAYSTATION 3 with the PC version following shortly afterwards," noted Capcom.

The developer had previously spoken out, suggesting that the PC version could be delayed due to piracy concerns and the need for more polish.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 releases of the gun-toting, mechanical arm-swinging action game are due out by the end of March 2009. The PC delay continues in the Capcom tradition that saw Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet hit PC months after consoles, with the impending Street Fighter 4 likewise receiving a delayed PC release.

Piracy and Polish May Delay Bionic Commando PC; New Screenshots Celebrate TGS

Oct 09, 2008 10:07am CST tags: Bionic Commando, Screenshots, Delay, Piracy, TGS 08
New screenshots of GRIN's Bionic Commando (PC, PS3, 360) accompany today's Tokyo Game Show festivities, showing off more of the swinging-focused action game.

Bionic Commando is slated to hit by next spring, with the developer telling Kotaku that the console versions should be expected in "very early 2009."

Meanwhile, the PC version may arrive a bit later because of piracy and extra polish.

"The PC is always a slippery slope because of piracy, stuff like sorting out DRM, making sure we don't have too little or too much," explained GRIN employee Ulf Andersson.

"But also because we want to make sure it doesn't feel like a port, so we can add a little extra polish to the PC version," Andersson added.
