Battlefield Vietnam Q&A

Aug 28, 2003 9:43am CST tags: Battlefield 1942, Battlefield
There is a new Battlefield Vietnam Q&A today, on fan site BF42.de. Armand "Aj" Marini gets to answers questions about the helicopters, the new game features, realism vs fun, use of a physics engine and environmental destruction.
BF42.de: Is BF Vietnam heavily based on the code of BF 1942, or did you more or less reinvent the wheel and wrote a new engine from scratch ? In that context, what does BF Vietnam mean for Mods? Start from scratch, too?
Aj: We didn't completely reinvent the wheel, but the game is completely new to a great extent. Some systems are carryovers, but most of them have been modified. As I mentioned above, the control point system is one that has been changed and there are many more systems that have been changed. The rendering engine is new and everything the player sees in game has been created using new systems and methods. As far as what this means for Mods, I can say that to a fair extent, Mods will need to be recreated in order to work with the BF Vietnam system.

Battlefield Vietnam Announced

Jun 18, 2003 2:34pm CST tags: Electronic Arts, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield
How about that boys and girls, Electronic Arts & Digital Illusions have just announced a new Battlefield game - Battlefield Vietnam. Currently in development for the PC, the game will be released early 2004.
The Battlefield franchise is entering a new era with more firepower and beautiful yet ferocious new combat settings. Staying true to the over-the-top, action-packed multiplayer style that gave Battlefield 1942 its critical and commercial success, Battlefield Vietnam will drop players into some of the Vietnam War's fiercest battles. Fighting in theatres from jungles surrounding the Ho Chi Minh Trail to the city streets of Hue, players will choose from two well-equipped forces, the United States or the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and Vietcong.
Like BF1942, Battlefield Vietnam will feature a singleplayer as well as a multiplayer part, and will have "new rendering and sound engines".

Battlefield Vietnam?

Apr 21, 2003 6:38pm CST tags: Battlefield 1942, Battlefield
GameSpy Daily is reporting that a search at the US Patent and Trademark Office's website reveals that Digital Illusions, developer of Battlefield 1942, has filed for a trademark for the name Battlefield Vietnam. Of course this doesn't mean that the game is actually being worked on, but it's indeed a possibility. First a rush of WW2 action games, now the Vietnam war is set to follow it seems with Line of Sight: Vietnam, Vietcong, Men of Valor: Vietnam and possibly Operation Flashpoint 2 and Battlefield Vietnam.

Battlefield 1942 1.31 Patch

Mar 07, 2003 11:07am CST tags: Battlefield 1942, Battlefield
EA has just released a new patch for Battlefield 1942, updating the WW2 shooter to version 1.31. Here's what this patch takes care of
Network/Server Fixes
- We fixed a crash in co-op mode when restarting the map - this crash was known to occur right after a map switch
- We removed the default Remote Admin Password for servers - there was a default password in place that could be used as an exploit
- We changed the object collision system to prevent exploits involving players hiding inside of objects - more widely known as the "Coral Sea" bug
Client Fixes
- We locked out an exploit to prevent users from seeing through walls.
Sound Fixes
- We modified several attributes of the sound system to provide better sound performance.
And if you run a dedicated server, here's the updated release of that.

Battlefield 1942 Patch News

Oct 18, 2002 7:59pm CST tags: Games: PC, Battlefield
The official Battlefield 1942 site at EA.com has a new community message with some additional information about the upcoming 1.2 patch. Unfortunately, client prediction improvements will not be included. Here's what is mentioned
This one's a toughie. We will not be able to address client prediction in the 1.2 patch. The fixes are more complicated than we initially thought. Rather than putting you all through change and counter-change, we want to get it right the first time. So, please be patient...we're aware of the problem and working to solve it.
The update also mentions mods, work on the (Linux) server and options to kick/ban team killers and the fixing of cheats.
