There's a Battlefield 2 Q&A on the Battlefield Singleplayer site, talking to EA's Ben Smith about the singleplayer element in the game. Thanks Total Battlefield 2.

IGN was able to get some play time with DICE's upcoming PC war game that brings the series into the modern age of combat. The preview covers much of the game, including the new Commander feature. The game is still expected at the end of June.

The Commander is a really important member of the team and truly will be the leader of a combined force for those willing to play the game as a team. He or she has several abilities to help out the team. Firstly, they get to view the battlefield from a top down persepctive and they know where all the squads are at all times. He/she can watch the map, scan for enemy locations and let squad leaders know where to go and what to look for. Squad leaders can then disseminate that information to their respective squad.

Along with a simple scan, the commander can also send out an unmanned drone to spy on a certain location. This only lasts for a short time, but allows all friendly units to see what the drone sees, giving players a much better look at enemy positions than what simple vocal communication allows for. Along with the UAV, the commander can drop supply crates, which act like a combined med and ammo box, refilling anyone in the radius. The crate can be destroyed though, so if enemies are smart, they may shoot it from the air before enemies can even get a hold of it.

Total Battlefield 2 has posted more Battlefield 2 impressions, talking mostly about the use of tanks. Six new screenshots are included as well.

According to this Planet Battlefield post, a Battlefield 2 demo will be released around mid-June, just before the retail release of the game. The demo will include one map.

Battlefield developer Digital Illusions sent out a few press releases today, one of them announcing a new PC game for release this fall and another to announce a PSP version of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. The untitled PC shooter is being developed at DICE's Canadian office, which developed Battlefield Vietnam. PSP porting of Modern Combat is being done at one of EA's UK studios. Boomtown has a new Battlefield 2 preview, going hands-on with the game during a demonstration last week. Meanwhile Wolfgaming has word of a Fragalyzer tool being developed by DICE for the game.

EA's Battlefield 2 newsletter went out last night, offering some new media from DICE's multiplayer shooter sequel Thanks TotalBF2. There are several new screenshots, there is the latest producer interview with executive producer Scott Evans talking about voice over IP and mod tool support, and there is also a ground combat video.

There's a new Battlefield 2 community update on the EA website. Lawrence Brown writes about the creation of custom vehicles, as well as character animation.

Over at GameSpy you can find the first Battlefield 2 development diary. DICE designer and producer James Salt talks about his Battlefield background, some of the improvements they are making and a report on some behind the scenes happenings at the recent BFCon demonstration of the game.

A new Battlefield 2 Q&A has been posted at Boomtown. DICE answered reader submitted questions about the engine, singleplayer campaign, map sizes, pixel hit detection, unlocking weapons and more.
