Foolish Entertainment has released the Advanced Tactical Center, a Battlefield 2 tool which helps with squad organization. A feature list can be found here.

EA's Battlefield 2 site has a new community update, mentioning that a 1.01 patch for the game is being released next week. Though the update lists several changes and says they are "the major fixes" there's nothing in there about the biggest bug - the game incorrectly identifying people as team mates. So what is fixed?

-Fixed issues that caused the Multiplayer Browser to become unresponsive.
We've added some new functionality and buttons to the Multiplayer Browser that make finding an open game of Battlefield 2 much, much easier. Issues users have encountered involving zero ping servers or browser hangs have all be addressed.

-Fixed an issue where some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu.
Some functions previously were not available to be rebound in the Controls Options menus. These items have been added to make rebinding of functions much easier.

-Fixed a crash with rebinding LMB
Users who rebind the Left Mouse Button to "Move forward" rejoice! With these fixes and more, it should be much easier to get in to a game of Battlefield 2 and that much easier to play it the way you want to play it. Look for this update to be deployed into battle some time next week!

A new Linux server build is being worked on as well, and EA hopes to have an Open Beta version of the Battlefield 2 Mod Development Toolkit out some time in July.

Over at WolfGaming you can find a Q&A with EA's Ben Smith, who is asked about the ranking system in Battlefield 2. Questions are about stats being sent to EA, what happens upon a disconnect, losing rank, requirements for unlocking weapons and more.

After a week of rumors and great anticipation, the Battlefield 2 demo is now available! The 627MB download offers the Gulf of Oman map, which you can play in a 16 player or 32 player configuration and as US, or Middle Eastern Coalition troops.

Meanwhile the official Battlefield 2 website has a community update with some notes about the demo.

UPDATE!: Download the Demo here! The EA Australia messageboard of all places has some of the first word on the planned Battlefield 2 demo timeline. We've also confirmed with EA US that this is pretty accurate.

Official Battlefield 2 Demo: Although final dates for the Battlefield 2 demo have not been locked down we understand we will be allowed to make it available in little over a week. Once again these features are not 100% final but the demo will contain:

- One map
- 16-player single player
- 16 and 32-player multiplayer
- Time limit per round

According to 'reliable sources' and PBF Battlefield 2 has GONE GOLD! There was a release party just recently where this new piece of Battlefield 2 footage was shown so we're pretty sure it is legit. Of course I do recall attending a Daikatana 'release party' a good few months before the game went gold... at any rate, a crapload of Battlefield 2 media to look at while you wait just a few  more weeks for the game!

update: We have now also gotten further confirmation from a number of different EA sources. This is legit. The game ships June 21, as noted on the official website.
