BF42.com has word of a new German Battlefield Vietnam preview posted by Krawall.de. Like another German preview last week, this article contains several new first person screenshots from the game.

There is a new community message on the Battlefield 1942 website, offering another update on the 1.6 patch among other things. They call 1.6 "by far the most comprehensive patch to date", and it wil offer Punkbuster support, two new maps, an improved server browser, and many other new features and fixes cumulating in a 266mb download.

There is a new Battlefield 1942 community update on the official website, offering an update on the map contest and the 1.6 patch (including a list of mods currently incompatible with this upcoming release).

Desert Combat 0.6

Trauma Studios has released a new Desert Combat patch, updating the popular Battlefield 1942 mod to version 0.6. The new release offers new vehicles, new weapons and three new maps. Currently only a patch is available, so you'll need DC 0.5l installed already.

There is a new community update on the official Battlefield 1942 website, outlining plans for the 1.6 patch. It will include Punkbuster support, a new GUI for voting, a fix for the chat lag (!), and a new map for the regular game as well as Secret Weapons of WW2. The patch will be released some time in January.

GameSpot is reporting that LucasArts is working on a BF1942-like Star Wars multiplayer game. The game, to be released on PC, Xbox and PS2, is called Star Wars: Battlefront, and more information will come early next year. Commercial version of this?

The Electronic Arts Battlefield 1942 website has been updated, announcing that the next patch for the game will include the Punkbuster anti-cheating measures. "The Battlefield team is committed to providing an exploit-free gaming environment for members of our community. Our goal is to have measures in place which address both current and future cheats". Patch 1.6 is currently being tested.

Boomtown has finally posted their full Battlefield Vietnam Q&A, offering an article format talk with designer A.J. Marini. Topics include the previously mentioned drop of DM and CTF modes, the cinematic feel of the game, equipping the North Vietnamese, game performance and anti-cheat measures.

Boomtown has posted an excerpt from an upcoming Battlefield Vietnam Q&A with lead designer AJ Marini, revealing that Capture the Flag and Team Death Match modes have been dropped from Battlefield Vietnam. The Conquest mode will instead get support from new Evolution and Custom Combat modes. "In Evolution, the game spans across two historically tied maps. The scores from the first map, player and team, are then carried over to the second".

Over at PC.IGN tonight you can find a Q&A with Frank DeLise, manager of the Trauma Studios team which has brought us the Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942. Questions are about Frank's background, the mod's setting, the amount of people working on the project, working with the BF1942 engine, goals for future versions, and the success so far.

Battlecraft 2.0 Released

Electronic Arts sends along an updated Battlecraft editor, the tool used to created Battlefield 1942 maps. The new 2.0 release fixes several bugs (including one where the program crashed when you saved your level) and has improved framerate.
